Mary & Martha
by adustyframe ~ August 21st, 2006I have been facing a serious case of Mary & Martha this week.
When Jesus didn’t move fast enough to save Lazerus, they let him know they were not amused.
I have been struggling a lot these past couple weeks. More than I have been for a long time.
This week, I was feeling like “God! you can stop this. You can make this go away. You can change all this”
I am completely confident that God is able to move in the mind of the judge. He is able and He is in control. He could write the decision and stop those who stand against us. This could be over in an instant.
But it’s not. It continues to be our trial. Daily I have to give this to God.
I do not understand why God chooses to let us wait.
As a sinful human with a finite mind, I just want to focus on the circumstances and think how much this stinks.
I was faced with the fact this week that God is always good. He always does right. I do not have the right to order Him what to do.
We read the Mary & Martha story and think “oooo! yikes. I can’t believe they were bossing Jesus around”
But what do I do when I demand my way? When I mentally stamp my foot and say “God! Where are you? Why don’t you change this?”
I was reminded that when Jesus came in His perfect timing, it was for His glory and His purposes.
I must keep in my mind that God is working our good in this trial. He is working on His timetable and when He moves it will be to show that it was only Him.
If Jesus had come earlier, there could have been doubt about how Lazerus’ life was spared. But Jesus came when he was so dead that he “stinketh” (good word by the way!)
If I look at this with my eyes (so easy to do!) I see how much it stinketh! But I must believe that God is sovereign and that He will show His glory in His time.
I pray that He gives me strength and that I too will stand back and see His moving and working.

Waiting is always hard but particularly when our circumstances seem difficult. I am praying for your family.

Had Jesus come when Lazarus was alive, then He would not have needed to raise him. I need to remember that God may not be giving me the “good stuff” right now because he has even BETTER stuff for me in the future. Thanks for that reminder! Here for the carnival
