Music

Again I’m writing about music!

God has used music over and over to minister to me.

Tonight I was watching a Gaither homecoming show on TV. I have a soft spot for Southern Gospel–I don’t want a steady diet of it but much of it is just such an encouragement.

They sang a song I heard years ago. “What a lovely name the name of Jesus”

I didn’t memorize the lyrics fast enough but here are a couple sentences…

Sweeter than the songs they sing in heaven.

What a lovely name the name of Jesus. Let the earth proclaim, What a lovely name

It’s the first song that I ever was tempted to raise my hands in wild abandon and praise. Tonight, I did raise my hand and cried.
(are you noticing a theme in my posts? I cry at the drop of a hat these days.)

Then they sang Precious Lord

Precious Lord, take my hand,
Lead me on, let me stand,
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn.
Through the storm, through the night,
Lead me on to the light.
Take my hand, precious Lord,
Lead me home.

Here is a link to the tragic story behind the song...one that makes me feel as though I should just suck it up because my situation is not as sad as his was and yet he wrote this precious song.

But I truly am so tired and weak and worn.

I checked out a CD at the library yesterday by Point of Grace. I hadn’t listened to them before.

They sang a song about no more sadness or something like that (I’ll edit this when I listen to it again)

No more sadness or trials sounds wonderful to me.

Thank you Lord for inserting these reminders into my day.

Thank you for loving me enough to show me you are here and that you know how sad I am.

Thank you for your servants that minister by writing and performing these songs to your glory.

Thank you for sending them at the moments when I feel I cannot go on.

You are my strength and you love me enough to send songs to touch my heart just when I need them.

In Jesus most precious lovely name,

Amen

Lizzie

I think that that’s the important thing about Christian music, if it doesn’t uplift us or encourage us or make us think about our walk with God then it’s not serving it’s purpose. I too enjoy listening to Point of Grace, some other music to check out is music by Amy Grant, Casting Crowns, Phil Keaggy, Steven Curtis Chapman and many more. btw mind if I add your blog to my links? You don’t need to return the favour if you don’t wish :-)

  2. Q&Q

Hi. I love the Gaither videos too. I’m a church pianist and God has used music to help me heal from past pains. Sometimes I just sit at the piano and play and sing when I don’t know what else to do. I had just checked out Turn Your Radio On from the library and that had some touching moments in it. My soft spot has turned into a steady diet of Southern Gospel much to my husband’s dismay and my baby’s delight. I just wanted to share. Your blog is very moving. God bless.
