Other people’s trials

by adustyframe ~ November 17th, 2006

Often I look at other people’s trials and thank the Lord that I don’t have to go through that!

*enduring illness

*a disabled child

*death of loved ones

*abusive spouses

I said to my pastor’s wife once, “I guess people look at me and don’t want to go through a trial like mine.”

She looked at me with a “duh you think!?” sort of face and said “Umm no”

God doesn’t give us grace to go through someone else’s trials.

He distributes a measure of grace to each of us to bear our own trials.

What I am dealing with is hard and and sad and lonely, and yet I’m not doing anything more than any other person is. If they are trusting in the Lord and seeking to please him and taking their life as it comes, they are doing the same as I am.

A friend of mine told me a story.

The person had a terrible burden and said to God, “I can’t do this!” (I’ve said that more than once!)

God took them in a room and told them to set their burden down and exchange it for another. He looked around the room to see death, disease, hatefulness, poverty, and other sad burdens.

The man picked up the smallest burden he could find in that room and said “I guess I’ll take this one.”

God said, “That’s the burden you walked in here with.”

Sometimes realizing that I’m not the only person with a burden helps. I truly don’t want to deal with some of the burdens others carry. They surely don’t want mine!

And yet our wonderful Lord carries us each through our own trials if only we will cling to him and trust his sovereignty.

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 12:9
