Let this Cup Pass From Me

by adustyframe ~ January 2nd, 2007

Here is another song by Joe Zichterman

Let this cup pass from me,
And tho’ I am willing Lord to bear the cross whatever it may be,
Even now we know that all things still are possible with thee,
Let this cup pass from me.

I kneel in the garden alone,
As the tears stained with blood slowly fall to the ground,
Forsaken by friends, scorned by foes
Enduring the passion that only my Father knows.

Let this cup pass from me,
And tho’ I am willing Lord to bear the cross whatever it may be,
Even now we know all things still are possible with thee,
Let this cup pass from me.

As I cry out to you in the anguish of my soul,
With assurance of faith in my Father’s full control,
As 12 legions of angels await your command,
who could hasten and come to my aid,
Still I know it may be for this purpose your servant was born into this world.

Let this cup pass from me,
And tho’ I am willing Lord to bear the cross whatever it may be,
Even now we know all things still are possible with thee,
Let this cup pass from me . . . from me.

Matthew 26:39
And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

    yes.

    so very powerful.

when i watched The Passion, this scene stirred in my soul for a very long time, and still does as i remember it. the intimacy between Father and Son; the pain; the depth; and still the willingness to allow; and the willingness to receive. so very powerful.
