Getting to Church on time

by adustyframe ~ January 7th, 2007

My husband wrote me a letter about a neat incident.

Last week, he was trying to get to his scheduled church service.

He was going on Saturday night.

When he leaves his unit, he must be in his jumpsuit with boots and his name tag. It hangs around his neck and has his information.

He put his jacket on and hurried to the service.

He said he was almost there when he looked down and realized he didn’t have his tag on.

Not having his tag on and being outside of his unit is a major problem.

He would not be allowed in the service and would also receive some sort of disciplinary measures. (Being written up for an infraction for example.)

He knew going back meant he’d not be able to participate in the service. It’s not like going to church you know. He has to be cleared to enter and then they are locked in. No one comes and goes. No one leaves early or comes in late.

He said he saw a “white shirt” and thought he was in for it. I have to ask him but I think a “white shirt” is above the other guards. I’ve only ever seen “blue shirts”.

The white shirt saw my husband’s name on his jacket and hollered “Your name is on the list hurry up.”

The guard let him in without noticing my husband’s missing name tag.

He said it was just like God blinded the guard’s eyes. The service was excellent and just what he needed.

I am thankful that God is looking out for my husband. I am thankful that my husband is seeing God’s hand move on his behalf. I’m thankful he’s telling me these things too.

I have prayed for the last several weeks that God would put guards around my husband that also love the Lord.

Approximately 11% of the prison population claims to be born again and those statistics should apply to the guards.

There have to be guards that love Jesus and that want to minister to the inmates in small allowable ways.

I have prayed that the guards around my husband would treat him with kindness as much as is possible.

I am thankful that God loves my husband enough to answer my prayer and allow something as small as a name tag not stand in the way of a service he needed to hear.

What a wonderful story. Have you seen Lynn’s “manna jar” post? As I read this, I thought about the manna jar and how this would be a perfect story for you to place in a manna jar of your own…and when your husband’s time in prison is over…you can open the manna jar together and read the stories of how God has worked! Lynn’s post is here: http://devotionals.eph2810.com/?p=146 (((((Hugs)))))
