Sheep
by adustyframe ~ February 3rd, 2007Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:28-29
D.L. Moody shared an illustration about sheep in the Highlands of Scotland as told him by Dr. Andrew Bonar. He told Moody that sheep tend to wander off into the rocks and get into places they can’t get out of.
The grass on these mountains is very sweet and the sheep like it, so they’ll jump down ten or twelve feet, though they can’t jump back again.
Shortly thereafter, the shepherd hears them bleating in distress. Rather than retrieving them instantly, the shepherd waits until they are so faint they cannot stand. Then he puts a rope around them and pulls them out of the crevice.
Moody concluded his story by saying, “And that is the way with men; they won’t go back to God till they have no friends and have lost everything. If you are a wanderer I tell you that the Good Shepherd will bring you back the moment you have given up trying to save yourself and are willing to let Him save you His own way.”

WHOA isnt’ THAT the truth? I always wonder WHY I wait until the last second and until I have exhausted all other avenues before I turn to Him!
Why do I do that? Is it that I don’t trust Him? Am I too prideful? Or do I just not want to “bother” Him with my petty stuff?
All of the above, at different times, I guess.
Thanks for the post! Just wanted to let you know I was here reading. I loved the hands and the post about marriage. I so wish I could have held mine together but it was not to be. You did a wonderful job of talking about your commitment without condemning others! I so appreciated that.
God bless! I pray things are going better for you…
