A Battle Plan for my Marriage (part 3)
by adustyframe ~ March 11th, 2007You can read part 1 here and part2 here.
One of the things that amazed me in my search on how to pray for my husband was all the verses that applied to me.
I combed through my journals to organize and here are some verses from the Psalms that applied to me.
**Whenever I read the Bible, listened to a sermon, read a study book, I’d add any references to my journal with a note to whom it applied.
Praying Scripture for myself, my son, my husband, my marriage is a powerful component in this battle.
Psalm 9:10
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
Psalm 21:2
Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips. Selah.
Psalm 22:3
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
(Have music in our home. Praise and sing–God inhabits my praise.)
Psalm 23 Our Shepherd fixes our broken hearts.
Psalm37:4
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Psalm 37:11
But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
(An abundance of peace…)
Psalm 38:9
Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.
Psalm 40:1-3
I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
(God can put a new song in MY mouth that my husband can hear.)
Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psalm 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
(When I have questions or don’t know how to pray, I can be still and come before God.)
Psalm 56:3
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
Psalm 61:1-3
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
Psalm 62:8
Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
Psalm 66:18
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
(ask God to show me where I am wrong. I need to have the right heart.)
Psalm 66:19-20
But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
Psalm 68:9
Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, whereby thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary.
Psalm 69:13& 17
But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.
And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.
Psalm 71:16
I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only
(God gives me strength to do what he calls me to.)
Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
( My flesh fails so often. Thank God for his strength.)
Psalm73:28
But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
Psalm 77:11, 12
I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old.
I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
(Be sure to give God the credit for anything that happens.)
Psalm 91–the entire chapter. I though I’d skip posting it and tell you to read it in your Bible, but it’s a “wow” chapter so I want to share it.
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
Psalm 103:13, 14
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
(Sound familiar? This verse has blessed me for many years.)
Psalm 105:3
Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
Psalm 109:21-27
But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name’s sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.
For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.
My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.
I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.
Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to they mercy:
That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it.
(These verses described how I felt so well. I was also challenged to acknowledge that only God could change this. I continue to be convicted to share that it’s God. This “battle plan” of mine didn’t change anything. Only God’s working and his power can change my husband or myself.)
Psalm 120:1
In my distress I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me.
Psalm 139:23, 24
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
(Ask God to show me what I’ve done to contribute. His choices are not my fault, but my actions and attitudes can either give him an excuse to sin, or convict him to obey God.)
Psalm 147:3
He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
(God can heal my broken heart)
I am excited to get these organized. They were written just as I came across them.
Reading over them again and seeing all the principles and help that God pre-recorded for me in this trial is very encouraging.
If you are facing a situation that you need God’s wisdom for, I encourage you to write out Bible verses that apply to your situation too.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
