Update from the attorney
by adustyframe ~ March 13th, 2007I spoke with the attorney today.
I know that defense attorneys are often made fun of and treated as though they are lesser human beings. I must say however, that I am thankful for him.
We’ve had a total of 3 attorneys. (I don’t care to think about all those retainers. Headache city) Defense attorneys are a necessary part of the system.
So while some people don’t like them, I for one am glad they exist.
When a parole officer tells a lie, it’s very nice to have an attorney that knows the law speak up and point out that lie. When appeals must be filed, a defense attorney is an excellent person to have on the team.
So back to my conversation.
This attorney said today, “I have no clue what is going on with these judges. Passing the case back and forth. It should have been settled by now.”
He said that the current judge is a nice guy that he gets along with. (Always a nice sentence to hear from the lips of the defense attorney.)
The judge has called a “schedule of order” at the end of March. This apparently is the time for the DA and defense attorney to file their briefs, etc.
The attorney said that is far past in this case and the judge simply needs to read the record and make a ruling.
He thinks when they go to the “schedule of order”, he will be able to point this out to the judge and ask him to read and rule.
I’m guessing I’ll get to figure out how to pay the attorney more money for this. (sigh).
I told the attorney that we’d just really like to be out of limbo.
This weekend has been one year of official limbo status.
I know the wheels of justice move slowly. But when it’s my life, my child’s life, my marriage, these slow moving wheels are maddening.
Please pray for the judge. I know that the possibility exists that the judge will side with the parole officer.
I do not know what God’s will is in this appeal. I of course pray that God will open the judges eyes to the truth. I’ve said before that on this appeal, we are not afraid of the truth.
We’d love for it to be shouted from the rooftops.
It’s two months until my brother’s wedding, while I am trying to plan that Lee won’t be able to join us a corner of my heart still hopes. There is still time.
Please also pray for our attorney. Pray that he will be bold in presenting the case. That he will speak up when necessary and that the judge will show him and his words the attention they deserve. Pray that I will take any opportunity to witness to him as well.
And pray for Lee and I. To say we are tired is an understatement.

oh, my sis! I can relate to this on SO-MANY-LEVELS!
Here’s a sentence I never, NEVER thought I’d hear myself say (er, see myself type):
I’ll pray for your judge if you pray for mine.
(That goes for the attorney too!)
Take a minute to read this. It’s a post from an attorney that I know. (Grab the kleenex before you do though…you may shed a tear or two).

Lord, be with this family…every one of them regardless of where they are. Lizzy, her husband, her son. Father, I know how weary limbo is, and what a toll it can take on your body. Tired IS an understatement, and I’m feeling it too. Limbo seems exhausting, and yet we rest in the promise that those who wait upon the Lord RENEW their strength. Father, I ask that in our weariness You renew our strength in ways we cannot fathom. Be our strength because we have none left and more then ever we need You.
Lord, for the attorneys who will be presenting cases these next few weeks, and the judges who will be issuing rulings and orders that will alter so drastically the lives of so many, may You expose the lies which may exist, give the judges wisdom to do what is right, and give us faith to trust that the outcome is in Your hands.
I ask these things in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ of Calvary who died for my sins. Let us not grow weary in doing good [even in difficult situations] and season our lives with Your grace and mercy. Let us find encouragement in the limbo of Paul, who waited in custody for two years before You revealed Your marvelous plan to let him be shipwrecked…
…after which You granted the desire of his heart: To serve You in Rome.
Thank You for Your faithfulness, Your grace, Your mercy, Your love, Your truth. Amen.

Hmm, two Jodi’s! Were you also born in the 70′s like every other Jodi I know?
I will be “Jodi in WI” to keep us straight.
I’m praying for the judge (for both of you) and for you and your families. Bless you.

Dear God, You are the God of Justice. You alone are Just. You alone are Truth. I ask that You be all over this case and in it and around it. Cover it with Your Holy Truth and Justice. Infuse the attorney, the judge, and everyone who touches this case in anyway and in any form with Your solid, unalterable Truth; and may Your Justice prevail so firm and loud that You receive ALL the glory and honor. Cover Lizzie and Lee with Your Justice. Enclose them with Your Strength, Patience, Peace, Endurance, Forgiveness and Love. You are Sovereign. You are Holy. You are Just. And we call upon You as You Are to be right here all over and in and about this case. Thank You; I love You, Ame

I know of a godly judge…I believe there are many godly judges out there. I pray that this particular jidge will be one of them. Lord, I pray or peace for Lizzie and Lee in this time of waiting (yes, it’s maddening…and only by Your grace can they get through this). I pray that Lee will find favor in the eyes of the judge.
Lizzie, have you read the Psalm I posted in my blog yesterday? Come by and I pray that that Psalm will encourage you.
