We have been given a gift

by adustyframe ~ April 4th, 2007

My husband and I have both come to the realization that God has richly blessed us through this trial.

We truly have been given a gift. It sounds funny to say and perhaps if I said this to you aloud, the words catch in my throat.

Truly though God has extended to us the gift of seeing our relationship more clearly.

A few weeks ago, someone dear to me was complaining about her husband.

I couldn’t help myself. I simply quietly said, “I guess I’m at the point where I wouldn’t mind having Lee around to fuss with.”

She was quiet. What can you say really?

After I hung up, I sat on the couch as the realization poured over me that God has given us a gift. I can see how much I miss him. I can see what an important part he plays in our family. I don’t think that I will take for granted having a husband around the house ever again.

Tonight, our visit was 3 hours. I told him my belief that God has given us a gift through this trial.

He agreed with me. He pointed out how God smacked him upside the head and opened his eyes to his sin. He shared with me what he’s reading and learning.

He and I both were excited to sit down and spend 3 hours together.

When does that ever happen in a marriage? It was just him and I (well about 4 guards, and 50 other visitors and prisoners, but you get my drift right?).

We played a game, laughed, chatted, had a snack, held hands, talked about God’s moving in our life, and prayed together.

I don’t think that we ever spent that much time in serious conversation before. Now, we do it several times a week.

God is so good to bless us with open eyes to truly see how he is moving in our life. He is so good to help us realize that even with all the “stuff”, this is a gift.

Tonight, my husband held my hands and prayed. He said, “Thank you Lord for what a wonderful blessing my wife is. Thank you for all the time she gives up to spend with me. Thank you for all the work she does. Please help her days to calm down and give her time to relax.”

You can imagine those words coming from my husband were a beautiful precious gift to me.

So much good has come from this trial. Although, I don’t like it and wouldn’t have asked for it, I still have to see that God has used what looks bad to richly bless us.

This post wasn’t easy for me. It took a couple weeks to write it after I realized it.

It’s a hard thing to say that this is a gift. Yet it’s full of so many blessings.
