Praising God for Protection
by adustyframe ~ May 7th, 2007When I visited Lee on Sunday, I asked him about one of the guys he had talked about before.
He said, “I told you Chris got beat up.”
Well, he hadn’t told me! He shared the story with me and each time I think of it I am more and more amazed at God’s grace and protection.
I have prayed repeatedly for Lee’s protection.
He did tell me that at least where he is, it’s not a horribly dangerous place. If you want to fight you can but if you don’t you can stay away from the rowdy ones.
However, he works in the kitchen. So I pray for his safety there. For his safety in regard to guards and other inmates.
Well, Chris and Lee had spent quite a bit of time together. So Lee is certain that he would have been in the middle of this fight if it weren’t for God’s protection.
I have said before that currently Lee is in a pod where the bunks are lined up in rows. There are 100 guys in a big open room. As cells become available they are moved into the cells in other buildings.
On the day of the beating, Lee had gone to the library. Chris was told to gather his things to move. Lee is certain because of the time they had spent together that Chris would have asked Lee to help him move his things.
Thankfully, Lee was in the library far removed from this.
As Chris and his helper moved Chris’ things, another inmate rounded a corner and began to beat Chris. This occurred outdoors out of the immediate view of the guards.
It was a vicious attack that sent Chris to the hospital. The attacker had been planning this for some time and was able to surprise Chris.
I’m not here to comment on whether or not this should have happened or if it’s understandable or not–just to praise God that Lee wasn’t there.
Fights in prison can lead to new criminal charges. This isn’t something we care to face let me tell you!
Lee said that he went over the scenario in his mind many times and he is sure that if he had been there he’d have probably at least tried to separate the two. That could have led to him being injured or hurt or swinging a punch too.
This morning I was thanking God again for orchestrating the circumstances that removed Lee from this danger. I felt God whisper to me “You prayed for this. You asked me to protect him and I am.”
Wow! God is so awesome.
Psalm 36:7
How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

You mentioned a while back that Lee wasn’t much of a reader until just recently, and on this particular day when the fight happened Lee went to the Library — I would say it’s so ironic, but clearly the Lord was looking out for him!
