A “little” blessing
by adustyframe ~ June 29th, 2007Because I work on my feet all day, I’ve begun wearing Birkenstocks.
On the days I wear them to work, my feet and knees never hurt.
Due to their price, I own a summer pair and a winter pair.
**I found the summer sandals on a very good sale price. Otherwise, I’d have one pair!
I almost wore out my summer pair last year. I took them in this week to have the heels replaced. That cost $17. That’s cheaper than buying a new pair and having comfy feet keeps me happy.
When I picked up my sandals today, I saw they had a clearance rack. I looked at them quickly. “Clearance” for Birkenstocks at this store meant $75 or more.
I am not in a place to even pray for another pair of Birkenstocks. I have what I need. The only reason I’d need another pair is to rotate the wear so that they last longer.
I thought to myself, “Maybe someday.”
We had an hour before James and I had to be at our store. We stopped at my sister in law’s consignment shop. I dropped off some clothing and looked around quickly.
Do you know what I found on the shelf?
In my size?
NEVER WORN!?
For $10?
A pair of Birkenstock sandals.
I almost laughed out loud. I hadn’t even prayed for it and the Heavenly Father knew what I “needed”–or simply would enjoy–before I even asked.
New Birkenstocks for less than a heel replacement on the old ones.
I spent the day breaking them in. That’s the worst part. Once they’re broken in they are very comfortable shoes.
Thank you, Lord that you provided a teeny tiny want for me today. Thank you that I wasn’t coveting a new pair of shoes or feeling discontent that I couldn’t spend nearly $100 on shoes at this point in my life. Thank you for knowing and for having those shoes there for me today. They were a happy surprise in my day.
Thank you that you love each one of us that you care about the things that are “little”.

Wow, that’s great! Comfortable shoes are so important. They make all the difference in the world. And Birkenstocks are so great! I hope they last a long time for you.

The small things can be so wonderful. Had to buy Daniel some new shoes last week and knew it would cost me about £26. But, on the sale rack, in the right size and width, were some for £12. Yipppeeeeee!

I know exactly what you’re feeling, it’s not coincidence that they were there waiting just for you.
I purchased something for my own son that I’d been hunting for for over a month. Found one at this tiny little out of the way thrift I frequent. When I said, “Oh, I’ve been hunting for a small BMX with training wheels for over a month!”
She replied “Well, I guess it was meant to be yours, I just set that out 45 minutes ago!”
Plus she was having a 33% off sale that day, so I spent a total of under $7 for his like new bike!
Thank you, God.
