Godly children of single mothers (Or Fathers)
by adustyframe ~ July 17th, 2007I was so blessed the other night to hear Pastor Charles Stanley say he was raised by a single mother.
I never knew that!
A wonderful peace and excitement flooded my heart when I heard that.
His comment was something like “Don’t tell me you can’t do what’s necessary to raise Godly children. You may say, ‘But I’m a single parent.’ So what! My mother was too.”
Lee said he heard that years ago. I wonder where I was?
Anyway, I know with God’s help it is possible to rear children that can be used mightily by him. Two parents or not, it’s a big job.
I began to wonder if there are other Godly leaders reared by single parents?
Do you know any?

I remember a former pastor talking once about one of the early church “fathers” whose mother conceived him out of wedlock, repented, and determined to never marry but to raise her son for the Lord. I wish I could remember who it was. And of course Timothy, though he had a father, seemed to be taught the things of the Lord from his mother and grandmother.

I love this. What a reminder that God is able to do what the world thinks is not possible. May your little “James’” life be forever touched by your godly influence!

There are also women who raised their children to be Godly men and women who were single-parenting for a season, like Susanna Wesley
