We love the Shrek movies but they do have tacky, even vulgar elements that made me leave them for after age 10. One scene in Shrek2 is really offensive and my kids, having heard my objects, fast forward past it. I'm not sure how old James is, but I'm guessing from what I've read he's well under 10. Of course, most of what is objectionable went sailing right over my kids heads. They are aimed more to the adults. As for "Care Bears" my daughter collected them for a while, but the cartoons were pretty insipid and never held their interests. I've always said no to Pokeman and that sort of thing, although to calm the cravings I let my son have a cache of cards someone offered. They were "cool" for a week or two and he moved on and gave them away to someone else!!

That said--what a great job James did!!! It's tough to go against the others. What an awesome spirit of obedience he has developed. That's super!

I was always careful what my kids watched, especially when they were still very young! What is funny is my daughter is now even more conservative about such things than I was.

I was asked recently how my son turned out so well, considering all the trials we have gone through. I told the person I really believe it was BECAUSE of going through the trials that has made him strong in his faith.

So it is with you. :)

I am so with you on the Care Bears. We do not do any form of magic at all.
That is neat when you see your children place value on their relationship with you instead of choosings instant gradification.

Hug that boy!

No no no to shrek 2....and imagine three as well, although I did like one :) Far too rude- aimed at adults just as much as children. Praise the Lord for all His blessings. My weekend turned out differently from what I thought- will blog about it tomorrow.

Thanks for chiming in on Shrek Susanna:). Life often doesn't turn out like we want does it?:) I'll try to remember to read.

wow I defintely admire your son's discernment, I'm picky with what my children watch too and spells, witches etc isn't what I'd class as good viewing either.

Being a picky Mom is good!

I'll second the "no" on the Shrek movies. I haven't seen the second, wish I hadn't seen the first, and was told by others that the second one was worse.

I didn't remember it until you said it, but I did see part of a care bear show or movie one time, and yes, it was pretty strange with the spells and stuff.

Thanks for the input! Nice to know we don't need to watch them.

Lizzie, wonderful blessings!

Reminder: you forgot to put a link to your "Carnival Post With The LINKY" so that when new readers read this post they know where to go to read more of God's works :) (just a friendly reminder because I think this carnival is great :)

You're so smart.
