A great day homeschooling
by adustyframe ~ October 1st, 2007Today was a great day of homeschooling.
It didn’t really start that way. We were having a hard time getting started. The phone kept ringing. Normally, I don’t answer it during school, but it was constant. I had a conversation with my brother which I needed to have, etc.
Once we got started, it turned into a super day.
It was one of those days to write home about. Someday, I’ll be nice and honest and write about one of those not quite so great days.
We accomplished quite a few readings, math went great, science was fun. We finished up our lesson on Mercury. Our assignment was to drop pebbles into a bowl of flour to see how asteroids made craters.
We heard a loud chirping in the tree outside and went to see what bird was making that racket. It turned out to be a chipmunk. He was on the side of the tree and making a loud chirp. Very interesting!
The Narration Jar works so well for us. I added some new slips of paper today.
We read An Island Story ch. 3 today. It told of the Romans coming to conquer Britain.
James pulled his slip out of the jar. His assignment was to write a letter about the reading.
Since he’s not a fast writer yet, I let him dictate it to me.
I was so tickled that he’s getting the hang of it.
Here was his letter home.
“Dear Mom,
I’m scared. We saw 800 ships. They were coming. I screamed like a girl.
I hid in the forest. Then we went and fought. The Romans had better armor. We had wood shields and copper swords. The copper swords couldn’t cut people very good. They weren’t strong.
The Romans said they won. No one really did. We lost because we agreed with the Romans to give them money every year.
Love, James”
He was especially pleased with his “I screamed like a girl.” comment. He had quite a few chuckles over that one.
I am so blessed that I obeyed God’s call to homeschool this precious child of mine. Even when it looked impossible and I couldn’t see how God could ever make a way, he did. We are reaping such wonderful blessings and I am truly grateful to God for allowing me to do this.

Lizzie, so happy you obeyed God when He put it on your heart to homeschool. I believe He blesses us when we obey Him completely.
James will learn great communication skills also. You as a single Mom are doing a GREAT job. Keep up the good work. Lee will be very proud of you!!
Thank you, Beth.
