Prison handiwork

by adustyframe ~ November 24th, 2007

When I visited Lee last week, I walked past a Christmas tree.

It was full of beautiful ornaments made by the inmates. These were only $2 a piece.

I bought one of each design. I wanted to keep one and share one.

So if you’d like one of these angels, please leave a comment here. I’ll pick a name next weekend. Tell your friends too. The more the merrier.

These ornaments are a reminder to me that these men are so much more than their inmate  number and crime. They are men with talents and abilities. Men who have people who dearly love them. Men that are dearly loved by God.

Oh, these are beautiful! Reminded me of the passage:

The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because …He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners

I could almost hear the sound of the triumphant trumpet.

Is there any way we can order these?

Those ornaments are lovely and would be great on my tree since I collect angels.

I have a painting that I purchased many years ago in the store at Folsom Prison which, as you probably know, is a max. security facility. I was very young and went there with my sister. I still recall the feelings I had as I looked around that store at all the beautiful things the inmates had made and then looked out the window at that imposing gate that is such a famous image. The juxtaposition was so alarming and incomprehensible to me that I have never forgotten that day. I get so many compliments on that painting and people are shocked when I tell them where I purchased it.

Blessings to you this Thanksgiving weekend. I hope that you are well and the sale went smoothly!

    Thank you for sharing JHS.

Judith, if you tell me how many you want, I can see if that many are left on the tree when I go:)

The angels are very pretty. If I won I would give it to my daughter, she loves angels.
