Back to school today

by adustyframe ~ January 7th, 2008

I decided to wait to start school until today.

I spent one morning last week getting the next several weeks scheduled. I’ve never had a whole morning to devote to planning the school schedule. My brain was spinning, but it was so nice to get it done.

By sitting down doing several weeks at once, I was able to see that a few weeks were really light. I moved things around and was able to add 3 weeks of school work into the weeks I was planning. That should help us finish up right on time.

Today was a really great day. We buckled down and got back to learning.

We are reading an A. A. Milne poetry book right now– one poem each day. Today’s was about Mary Jane who didn’t want her rice pudding.

James asked, “What is rice pudding?”

I said, “You don’t know what rice pudding is?! Well let’s make some.”

It was very yummy! Homemade pudding beats the stuff from a box any day.

We sat down after lunch to bowls of warm rice pudding and played a few games of Yahtzee. James won. The Yahtzees were evading me today.

We also started Little House in the Big Woods today. James is really enjoying it which of course makes me really happy.

Tonight, we read another chapter and he kept saying, “Read more!”  I think it’s a winner.

I truly enjoyed our day today and am so thankful that God has blessed me with the ministry of homeschooling this precious little boy.

Sounds wonderful, Lizzie. I love what you said about your ministry to James. I need to be reminded today that my children are my ministry … and to tenderly work with them in that light.

Awww. I love hearing your homeschooling stories…they warm my heart.

  3. Joy

What a blessing. Praise the Lord He has opened the door for you to work from home and have more time with James.

    Lizzie,

That’s so great that you are homeschooling James – these are memories and shared experiences that will form a lifetime bond between you two. That’s so much more important (esp. right now) than just what he would benefit from at any school. I’m glad you’re finding it so rewarding (and yes; it truly is a ministry – not everyone could do it well.) Good on ya.
