Ninevah

by adustyframe ~ January 19th, 2008

I shared earlier that Lee and I are reading Changed Into His Image together.

Yesterday when I visited him he told me how God is using it in his heart this week.

In the chapter we’re working on there is a section about how God humbles us.

Jim Berg says

1. He sends us problems we can’t handle to expose our helplessness

2. He gives us a command we won’t obey to expose our self-centerdness

3. He can arrange an outcome we can’t control to expose our sinfulness

4. He can show us a God we can’t comprehend to expose our finiteness.

For number 2, his example was Jonah and Ninevah.

When I read Jonah, I think “Jonah, Jonah, Jonah! I can’t believe you wouldn’t want to go share about God with these Barbarians! They need God so much.”

Then we read about Jonah being upset that they repented and once again can’t believe him and his sinfulness.

It’s so easy to wag our fingers at Jonah without wagging it at ourselves isn’t it?

Lee told me that as he was reading God clearly showed him that prison is his Ninevah.

The guards that are unfair, the parole officer that has not been truthful, all the things that have been so hard for him–these are his Ninevah.

He said God reminded him that prison is where God has him now and they are the people he intends Lee to share the Gospel with. He reminded Lee that he must be the man God intends him to be–even there.

Please pray with me that God will continue to work in his heart and give him opportunities to witness. Also please pray that Lee will continue to be sensitive to the teaching and leading of the Holy Spirit.

Pray that he will be faithful in his Ninevah.

Lizzie

3 Thoughts Shared to Ninevah

  1. Pam

WOW…it sure sounds as though Lee is growing in his walk with the Lord!!! What a change from just a couple of weeks ago when he was questioning his faith. I will continue to pray that Lee will be mightally used by the Lord to reach many in his “Ninevah”….may all who interact with Lee see the love and grace of Christ. Pam, South Bend

Thanks, Pam. A big encouraging change. He needs prayer prayer prayer.!

  2. Christy

This brought tears, Lizzie. Thank you for sharing … the four points in the chapter (a good lesson for me, too) and for what they mean to you and Lee. We will be praying for Lee in his Ninevah. Sending hugs from Tennessee.

They are really great points aren’t they? Thank you for praying for him–and for the hugs:)
