My Bible Meme

by adustyframe ~ February 21st, 2008

I found this meme at Kate’s blog. (I met Kate through a comment–I really DO try to visit your blogs sometimes!)

It’s a twist I haven’t really seen before so I thought I’d try it!

This assignment is all about our Bibles and how we use them.

  1. How old is your Bible? almost 18 years.
  2. Why did you chose this Bible? My Dad gave it to me during my 1st year in college. It’s a KJV leather bound Bible. It was my first “real” Bible. I always had the free Sunday School give away Bibles that didn’t last very long!
  3. Do you highlight/mark passages in your Bible? I sure do. Notes, quotes, cross-references, information, word definitions, underlining. My son is scandalized when he sees this. I tell him it’s ok for Mom to do this but he still thinks it’s horrible that I write in my Bible.
  4. If so, what is your system for marking passages? I have a nice little kit to neatly underline/highlight, but it doesn’t fit in my Bible case and I rarely remember to use it. I usually just use whatever pen I have around.
  5. Do you have notebooks to record things? Yes, I have found my journals to be very valuable. I don’t constantly use journals though. I usually do when I’m studying a topic or seeking the Lord on something I want to learn better.
  6. If so, how many and what do you record? I record verses that speak to me or that refer to the topic I’m studying. I also write down my thoughts or what I realized as I read. I sometimes journal prayers.
  7. Where is your favorite spot to read your Bible? On the couch in the morning with the sun streaming through my lace curtains. Wrapped in a blanket with a mug of coffee–you can imagine that’s not ALWAYS conducive to staying awake so I often sit upright at the kitchen table.
  8. Are there any special thoughts about your Bible you want to share? I am always so struck by the fact that God pre-recorded this for Me. It is a living book and applies to every aspect of my life. It’s also amazing to think how accurately it’s been preserved for so many thousands of years.

    8. It is precious to me because.: It contains the truth, God’s word which since I have come to know Jesus Christ , God’s Son the words have become alive to me through the blessed Holy Spirit. ( I am so glad that God reached down and drew me onto Himself through the shed blood of His Son for my sins.) PRAISE THE LORD!!!

    Thanks for doing this, Beth.

My husband just bought me a new one for valentines day! My old one I had had for 13 years (since school), and had so many passages underlined and highlighted that I had forgotten why. (apart from them being very, very cool). So, Hubby bought me a new one to discover all those passages again, now that I’m older, and hopefully, a little more mature. (I still have my old one though, for referencing things… I know where they are… seond collumn on the right page, about half way down… *grin*)

I heard a quote once, that said “If your Bible is dirty and falling apart, there’s a good chance your life ‘aint.”

    So true!
