My pet peeve
by adustyframe ~ March 4th, 2008I heard it again tonight.
Someone yelling at a child, “You’re going to jail for that.”–followed by laughter.
How can people make light of jail?
How can they do that to a little child?
I bit my tongue because I can guarantee if I had said anything it would not have been kind.

perhaps there is a time NOT to bite your tongue … perhaps they need to see and experience the pain of it raw, as it is, so they may see how flippant they are. i am so sorry.
Maybe I should have said something, but James was there. I wanted to consider his feelings. We don’t talk about jail/prison 24/7 and I didn’t want to cast a shadow on his evening.
Perhaps if he hadn’t been there.

Forgive them Father, for they know not what they [say]! People are so unaware of what goes on in REAL jail or prison. They have no way to know just how stupid they sound.

People never realize the impact it has on a life until they have experienced it. Be strong. satan devises conversations in ear shot for the sole purpose of becoming discouraged and loosening your grip on what God wants you to think, hear, speak, etc. I used to be a person that believed “if you do wrong, rot in jail”, until he went away for 8 years…what an eye opener. Those incarcerated aren’t the only ones doing time. And people don’t feel they need to watch what they say because it doesn’t affect them personally. God will give you the timing to share your testimony, your thoughts and your opinions to those less sensitive to the situation…be patient and know that God is in control. I am praying for your sweet spirit.
Thank you for your wisdom. I especially like what you said about conversations within earshot to drag me down.

My dad (and my husband) was a police officer. I remember as a child being in restaurants with my dad in his uniform and parents using him as a threat. “if you don’t behave, that policeman will arrest you…” it always upset me…my dad is one of the good guys!
