What has God been up to in your life this past week?

Answered prayer? Did you learn something in your Bible study?

Was someone Jesus in the flesh to you?

Please either link to your blog post here (It doesn’t have to be a brand new post by the way)

Or leave a comment.

Each time you share it’s a wonderful blessing to me–and probably to others.

Happy Weekend

Lizzie

We recently had a mini women’s retreat at our church. My best friend since 3rd grade came with me. She is a believer, but does not go to church or really focus on growing much in Christ. One of the workshops was how to study your Bible. I didn’t think much of it and was just thankful she was there. I talked with her yesterday and she ordered one of the word study books used for studying Greek & Hebrew to grasp the full meaning of Scriptures! I am so thrilled and ask for prayer as well as praise! I love seeing God work in varying ways!

So much to be thankful for this week [and always]. God really was with us.

    Actually, yes.

I have really been trying to yield and let God change my soul and smooth those “rough edges” such as a lack of patience, humility, and compassion; the desire to win the theological argument at hand and dislike of being corrected. I really want people to see Christ in me, but I keep getting in the way. I know that God wants me to be a witness to my unsaved inlaws when we go and stay with them this summer, and I’m afraid I’ll blow it. I spend good quality quiet time with the Lord, but always face it like a performance review and get discouraged. On Friday I was praying and realized that I don’t really see Jesus as a Friend, because His blessings and friendship are conditional (John 14 & 15), although His love is not.

Well, yesterday (Saturday) I attended a brief workshop at church for ladies who might want to lead small groups. I don’t think God would have me doing that right at this time, but maybe in a year or so. I don’t know. Anyway, we broke off into 2′s and 4′s at the end to pray, and there was an older woman with me who I admire (she’s very wise and is leading a senior women’s Bible study of predominantly Catholic women). She has a lot of patience, and is trying to think of new ways to reach them with the Gospel in a way that they’ll understand. I said that I face the same question — with my inlaws. I just want to give people a theology lecture, and expect them to “get it”. I also admitted to not having a lot of the qualities that need to be at the heart of a Bible study leader, and working on that.

She said something interesting (especially in light of some of my recent admissions to God) – “Just let God love you.” Wha…? She told me to trust His timing and not to try so hard to run out ahead of Him, and that she had learned (as an adult – she got saved at 52) to ‘climb up into His lap’ and that He puts His arms around her. She said, “When I have to go, I say “I’ll be back, Father” and the answer to her heart is “I’ll be here, Child!” She said this was especially true during her battle with breast cancer, and that it refreshes and invigorates us to go back out into the world and serve (do whatever we feel God wants us to do.) I have found that to be true, after spending a lot of time in closet prayer, but her comments about such a close, intimate and warm relationship with God struck right at the core of my doubts (which I’m always apologizing to God for.)

I don’t believe in “rhemas” and “prophetic words”, but I do believe that God used that lady to give me a message of sorts from Him that I needed to hear. So that was a real “Blessing from God” for me!
