I checked out a book at the library that was helpful it was by Scott Kelby. I guess he’s written books for all the versions.
There should be an option after you edit and save your photo, then save for the web. Resize it to 500 pixels.

You are definitely making headway. I know how frustrating it can be to learn a photo editing program! The PSE deal was great, and if it makes you feel better about it, I have heard that program is much more user friendly than the full-blown PS and only lacks a few advanced functionalities that even programmers don't use very often.
