Ok, I went out and bought brown rice several weeks back with this great idea to start eating more healthy. Well, after cooking the brown rice twice, I was ready to throw the rest of the bag in the trash...it just didn't come out right. I'm glad you posted on this...I'm going to try the soaking method.

Thanks

I always saute it in a little olive oil or canola oil then it cooks fast. Add boiling water after you saute. My kids like it best if I make the "Really Brown Rice" in the Recipes for a Small Planet book. Basically you just add butter and salt--tastes a lot like popcorn! I like brown rice now a lot, but didn't as a kid!

I am going to try the soaking glad to know not to drain but cook in h2o you soak in. Also very interested in reading Barbara Franks comment that it is suppose to keep blood sugar stable. Hope it stablizes mine.
Excellent post. Thank You!!!

I make big batches of brown rice and freeze it, too. It's supposed to keep your blood sugar stable.

Hope all is well with you, and that your dh starts feeling better soon. Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

Do you cook it in the same soaking water? Or drain and add fresh? I am going to try this - we mostly only eat brown rice, but it takes SO long.
