A hard time of day
by adustyframe ~ April 11th, 2008One of the hardest times of day for me is 4:30.
This afternoon, it is drizzly and gray here. I was tired, so I lay down for a rest. As I drifted off to sleep, I thought, “I need to get dinner started soon. Lee will be home.”
It shocks me how often I have these thoughts. They come to me uninvited and unwelcome to tell you the truth.
I lay on the couch this afternoon thinking about how much I miss the sound of his vehicle pulling into the driveway after a long day’s work. How I miss the sound of his feet on the back stairs. How I miss the sound of James running through the house to grab Daddy at the back door. How I miss my welcome home kiss and the pleasant chaos of a husband settling into the home for the evening.
I didn’t cry today. It was just a “heart squeeze” and a realization of how much we miss him.

This really resonates with me because I remember similar feelings after my divorce. My son, who was two at the time, kept me busy and we had a very good life together, but it was still a lonely time.
Praying for you!
Katherine
Thanks, Katherine.

I think we all have those unbidden thoughts about various people or events. It’s just your heart’s reminder that they are close and expected and habitual even if they aren’t present physically.
Soon, though, maybe those footsteps you long to hear will be actual. And they’ll be heart songs rather than longings.
Thank you, Chel.
