Short Time Syndrome

by adustyframe ~ April 17th, 2008

Lee has mentioned this in the past but it’s getting progressively worse.

Since his time is short, other inmates take that out on him. He said he’s getting constant comments.

He said something to the person in front of him in the food line the other day. The person two people in front of Lee turned around and snarled at him and mentioned something about Lee’s short amount of time.

Another inmate said, “Some people when they’re almost done should just hide in their rooms all day.”

We’re not exactly sure if that was a threat or a “slick” comment.

He said it seems like a lot of people are trying to pick fights with him.

So if you think about him please just pray for him to be able to be patient with the unkind words. Also that he will rise above this and just be who God wants him to be.

A prayer for his safety is always on my heart too and if you added that request, I’d be grateful.

Praying and praying on this–don’t worry! Like being back in JR High on with adults as the students–constant provocation isn’t easy to deal with.

We all want what we don’t have, don’t we? The other inmates must be jealous of Lee’s short time. So many of them must so ache to be free again that it has to stir that ugly jealousy when they see someone getting so close to what they also want. And while certainly one of the uglier sides of human nature, I do think that it is basic human nature, especially in places of hardship, to want – even just a little bit – for people who are getting what we most want … to not get it either.

I’ll say a prayer for all of you.

    praying hard.

That is very scary–I will pray for him!

Will keep him in prayer….that must be very nerve-racking.

Praying too. The Lord has kept you both through so much

‘The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose
I will not, I will not desert to its foes
That soul though all hell should endeavour to shake
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake’

My FIL had the same problem when he approached the end of his time. He would get so unnerved towards the end. Tell him to keep strong and remember the goal. I will pray for you all.

That is very interesting. Thank you for praying

There is a book called “99 Days & A Get Up…A Pre- and Post-Release Survival Manual for Inmates and their Loved Ones”. It helped to prepare for some of the possible adjustments needed. We still have our book and I just pulled it out to look for info to give you beyond the book. The company is called Open, Inc. (www.openinc.org) Offender Preparation & Education Network Inc. and it looks like you can order the book there or find helpful links for Lee re-entering society. Hope this info is helpful in some way. Praying always for each of you.

I am going to look for that. Thank you!. That’s what Lee is counting. How ever many days and a “wake up”.
