Encouragement
by adustyframe ~ May 5th, 2008I received this lovely email when I was gone this weekend.
Thank you for sending this to me, Kim.
It’s a huge blessing to me to know that God somehow uses these words I write to touch other lives and spur them to DO something.
Hi Lizzie -
I just wanted to write and let you know that your blog and your situation have inspired me – a friend and I recently found out about a program at the Bedford Hills Womens Correctional Institute in New York.
They are one of the few prisons in the country that allow women who give birth to children while incarcerated to keep their babies with them in prison until the children are 18 months old – all the while getting counseling, parenting classes, and natal care for their babies, who get to bond with their mothers instead of going to relatives or into the foster care system.
The program is in need of clothing for these children, and we organized a clothing drive that was hugely successful -all of the moms in our neighborhood overwhelmed us with donations.
I wanted to thank you for this, as your blog has really brought a human element to incarceration for me – and your posts about James make me think about the children whose parents are in jail. He is lucky that he has you – and so is Lee.
I will keep you in my prayers and am hopeful for a happy reunion for your family soon.
Kim
