Adjusting

by adustyframe ~ July 7th, 2008

Lee is still adjusting.

I told him the other day that prison is starting to feel like it is fading. It can’t exactly with the probation going on, but we’re starting to feel more like ourselves again.

This is a good thing.I asked Lee if he felt the same way. He said not quite yet.
He said he can’t tell me how many times he’s felt like he’s forgetting something only to realize that it was his ID necklace he wore in prison.

He had to wear it face out anytime he was out of his room.I remember what a big thing it was. On a visit, I’d always remind him to be sure it was face out before he went back to the desk. I also remember praying before he’d come out on a visit that he’d remember to check if his ID was face out. Checking in for a visit with the ID turned backwards was a huge deal.

Little things like this remind me that we’ve been through so much and come such a long way. Hopefully much of it will fade over time, even for Lee.

Not the lessons we learned! Just the reminders of prison.

Obviously not speaking about the same experience here but things do fade…..and it does take time. Mind you, it took a lot of time to get where you are and it probably takes more time to get over things than it took to get into them if you see what I mean. But the ‘getting over’ is a far more blessed experience than the ‘getting into’….or in my experience anyhow :) And the lessons (good or bad)? They do not go away, praise the Lord or else the whole experience would have been without long lasting benefit.

Good points:) Thank you for sharing. The whole “fading” is why I wrote this blog! I need the lessons to not fade.

ID had to face out? I’m guessing this is for “security” reasons? or they just wanting to make life difficult?

I don’t know that it was to make life difficult! Just the rule.
