Praying Scripture for my husband
by adustyframe ~ July 8th, 2008I believe that praying Scripture can be a powerful way to pray.
Jesus used Scripture when he prayed. Matthew 4:1-11 (temptation in the wilderness)
Prayer is also part of our armor Ephesians 6:12-17. In this passage, there is no hint of failure. Only standing firm if we wear the armor.
When we pray, we pray in the name and the blood of Jesus. Here are some examples
Philippians 2:9-11 The Name of Jesus
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Revelation 12:9-11 the blood of Jesus
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb
I’ve shared with you before that when everything looked horrible for us, I began reading the Bible looking for verses to pray. My journal pages are full of verses written out. I prayed them for me, for Lee, for James.
On Sunday, we were studying in Colossians and I saw this passage. I am praying it for my husband this week.
Colossians 1:9-11
…we…do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
There are a lot of elements in these verses that we all should pray for. I need these things in my own life. I just felt impressed to pray for Lee using these verses.
What about you? Do you pray Scripture?

Yes, I do, though not as often as I should. Sometimes I like to use the Lord’s Prayer as a springboard and go phrase by phrase and expand on it in prayer. Many of the Psalms are excellent prayers as well.
I’ve often prayed the passage from Colossians you mentioned as well as Ph. 1:9-11.
I will look that passage up! Thanks.

Definitely I do! Although back a long time ago when I was stodgy and immature, I used to hear men do it from the pulpit, and I’d think, “How ridiculous! God knows what the Bible says!”
So glad I’ve grown some since then!!
Here’s my post on the topic, although you know you’ll have to log in to read it…sorry about that!
