Although back a long time ago when I was stodgy and immature, I used to hear men do it from the pulpit, and I'd think, "How ridiculous! God knows what the Bible says!" Sometimes I like to use the Lord's Prayer as a springboard and go phrase by phrase and expand on it in prayer. Many of the Psalms are excellent prayers as well.
