They’re EVERYWHERE!

by adustyframe ~ July 10th, 2008

Before all of this, I knew of one prison guard. She came into my store sometimes.

In To Tell or Not To Tell, I wrote about her.

Last summer, I discovered our neighbor is a prison guard. I wrote about that here and here.

Last week, Lee and I stopped at the gas station. I waited in the car. When he came out, he was grinning. He asked, “Didn’t you see who was in front of me?”

I hadn’t seen so he pointed out a guard getting into his car. He didn’t recognize Lee. Lee was in a blue pinstripe dress shirt, with his dress pants, and dress shoes (He cleans up might nice if I say so myself). How could the guard recognize him?

On the 4th of July, we watched the parade with my brother and sister in law, my friend and her two children, and a guard and her family. They came to the corner where we were sitting. She recognized me. I could see it in her eyes.  She was always nice though. She told Lee on occasion that she had seen me around town.

Last week, I was in the grocery store and as I was leaving, a man shoved past me so that I had to move out of the way. I quickly stepped aside as he continued walking and almost pushed into me. I looked up wondering who was so uncouth when I saw it was one of the rude guards from the visiting room. He didn’t recognize me. He didn’t say excuse me either.

I guess that he’s rude everywhere not just at the prison.

I prayed for him actually. I don’t think he can be a very happy man.

Seeing them isn’t frightening. They actually have no power over Lee now. It’s just a reminder of what we’ve been through.

What a great way of looking at it (no fear because they have no power, they’re just a reminder of what you’ve been through…) — this could be an object lesson for SO many things we’ve been freed from. Things that used to have power over us, but now Christ has freed us from them. Sometimes I think we’re still “scared” of those things but this is an excellent reminder that they no longer have any power over us, and should only be a reminder of where we’ve been, rather than something to fear.

WOW! what a commentary on what which binds us … and Him who sets us free :)
