Lies Women Believe

by adustyframe ~ August 20th, 2008

Last year, our ladies Bible study group did this study.

I have been meaning to list the lies we believe but my book has been missing!

Yesterday, James and I were working in the church library–one of my ministries. I borrowed the church’s copy so here goes.

I’ve heard people complain about the diary from Eve’s viewpoint. It didn’t bother me because it had little to do with the book. If you didn’t like that part, that’s ok. The rest of the book really hits home.

1. God is not really good. If he were, he would…

We don’t say “God isn’t good” out loud. But does suspicion lurk in our hearts? “How could he let this happen to me?”

If we allow ourselves to doubt the goodness of God, we feel justified to make our own decisions about right and wrong.

Truth: God is good. Whether or not his choices look good to me. Whether or not we feel it, he is good.

2. God doesn’t love me.

This is another lie that we may not utter out loud but we struggle with in our hearts.  This is a seed we must not allow to grow in our hearts.

Truth: God loved me before I loved him. He loves me whether or not I love him.  There is nothing I can do to make him love me more or less than he does.

3. God is just like my father.

We must not allow our view of God to be decided by the men we know. If we want to know what God is truly like, we must go to his word. The Bible clearly reveals what God is like.

Truth: Regardless of how I feel or what I think, God is a good father who dearly loves his children. He is a father that can be trusted.

4.God is not really enough.

Another one of these that we’d never dare utter out loud. If we believe this lie our lives will surely show it.

“Of course God is enough. Plus a loving husband, plenty of money, good friends, a perfect life, good health, a nice house, pretty things, …”

The list goes on doesn’t it? If you don’t say it out loud, think about what you (or I) complain most about. If God is enough, will I complain that things aren’t exactly the way I think they should be?

Truth: God IS enough.

5. God’s ways are too restrictive.

The Bible teaches over and over that God’s laws are for our good and our protection. But the lie satan wants to place in your heart is that if you follow God you will be miserable.

It is true that we are free to choose our own way. But are you free to choose your own consequences?

Truth: True freedom comes from obedience to God.

More to follow…

Ooh, I really need to remember that one. Also, that not all men are like the men I know.

Yes, he’s nothing like the humans we know is he?
