School Days

James started 2nd grade on Monday.

Day 1 was fabulous. We sat down at the table outside with our pile of books eager to dig in.

James attitude was a ray of sunshine. I was thankful to be back in a more scheduled routine.

The birds chirped at our feeder and we stopped to watch them. Everything was perfect.

We listened to Bach when we came in. James played quietly all afternoon with some building toys.

Bliss!

Day 2 went down the tubes! (How can day 2 go down the tubes already?)

I had an emergency trip to the bank to cover a check I had mailed. I forgot to go transfer money into the account the day before and it had to be done first thing in the morning.

I decided that due to gas prices, I was going to finish errands while I was out.

School didn’t start until after lunch.  Day 2 going down the tubes was pretty much my fault.

James does best when we get to school first thing in the morning and I know that.

Both of our attitudes were less than stellar. There were even tears! (gasp! a homeschool mom admitting that it isn’t all perfect!)

We muddled through the day and I spent the afternoon being frustrated.

Later that evening, I realized that wed hadn’t prayed before school started. It was a “duh” moment. I asked the Lord to help me make it a priority to always pray before we start our school day.

Day 3 was better. Much better, but not bliss like day 1. We remembered to pray before we started.

Today was pretty good. Once again, we started our day focusing on God and asking for his help for our school day.

I always wonder at humans. We know that putting God first improves our attitudes and actions. Yet we still rush ahead into our “to do” lists without taking a moment to acknowledge God and seek his wisdom for the day. I hope I’ve learned my lesson for real this time.

“I have so much to do today that I should spend

the first three hours in prayer.”

It seems so simple to start our day with prayer, but somehow things can be so chaotic, we “forget”! I think I am a better wife and mom when I start my day in prayer…

We are starting school after Labor Day this year~first “real” year for my five-year old! Ninth grade for my oldest–he has a lot to do this year, LOL. I have to start his transcript, etc. Wild.

I agree with you. I’m a much better wife and mom when I spend time with the Lord.
