I’m reading…
by adustyframe ~ September 10th, 2008Emma by Jane Austen, although I put it aside momentarily. I think I started it once before. I’ve read most of the Jane Austen books but it’s been a long while so I wanted to read them again.
Thanks to Barbara, I decided to read To Kill a Mockingbird and it’s really good! Wow! I have no clue why it never really entered my radar before. I’ve heard of it but had no clue of the storyline and never watched the movie.
I’m also reading All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot. I purchased three of his books ages ago at the thrift store and never read them. All I knew was there is a hilarious story about a piano recital in one of them. (Anyone know which one?) A professor in college did a dramatic presentation of that and it was so funny.
Last year, James and I read James Herriot’s Stories for Children and I fell in love with his writing. I’m really enjoying the book.
I picked up The Blue Castle by L M Montgomery when I was at the library. I haven’t read it yet, but I’m looking forward to it.
I just finished reading Amber Morn and Coral Moon by Brandilyn Collins. I have really enjoyed her books although they’re not my usual genre.
Lastly, I read the Boo Series by Renee Gutteridge last year. They are VERY funny. She has an occupational hazards series and I read Skid. It was good. I enjoy her humor.
What are you reading?

Ah, To Kill A Mockingbird. I studied that book in English Literature class, and loved it. It’s not an easy book to read (got so angry during the trial scenes) but it’s worth every second. Glad you enjoyed it too!
I haven’t finished it so don’t give it away!:)

I am glad you’re liking To Kill a Mockingbird! I don’t know why I waited so many years to read it.
I need to put James Herriot’s books on my list. I have read something of his, but I don’t remember what now. I know there was a program based on his books — on PBS, maybe? years ago that I enjoyed.
I haven’t tried Brandilyn Collins. If she’s the author I am thinking of, she’s a little too scary for me.
I’ve read most of L. M. Montgomery, but I don’t remember if I have read that one. And I have never heard of the Boo series — will have to check it out!
I’ve worked my way through all of Jane Austen’s books and want to read them all again — someday.
Yes, I believe there was a series on PBS. I haven’t seen any of them though.
Brandilyn isn’t too scary really! I don’t really read suspense but I’ve enjoyed these.

I loved To Kill a Mockingbird!! My husband got to meet the author last year…what an awesome lady!! My daughter has her class read the book and then they watch the movie and discus the differences. I enjoy anything written by Beverly Lewis. They are all about the culture of the Amish. I always carry a list of suggested books with me so when I go to the library or the library sale I can have a “starting” place. God Bless, Pam

Right now I’m reading a compilation of war letters compiled by Andrew Carroll. It’s really moving. His new book has a letter as early as the revolutionary war. It’s amazing how the words change but the content hasn’t in over 200 years!

I love Blue Castle. It is one of my favorite books. We like the concept, which plays prominently in the story, of “having your own dust pile.”

I’m currently reading For the Children’s Sake (re-reading) and about to start Johnny Tremain for the first time. I Just finished Andy Catlett by Wendell Berry – good but not as good as Hannah Coulter, which I read a few weeks ago.
I remember really liking To Kill a Mockingbird, though I don’t remember much of it now.
Transition Girl, I remember feeling so upset like that when I tried to read Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Just the first couple of pages got me upset and that was mostly foreshadowing.

We must be thinking alike:) I just posted this morning about what we have been reading so far this year. I asked folks to join in and keep a journal page running throughout the year and to leave a link to their page so we can get ideas for our own reading.
I love To Kill A Mockingbird, too!

James Herriott is one of my all-time favorites. The best IMHO are moving Boris the cat and just about anything with Tristan! We love him.
I’ve been reading my Bible. I was so down and out-of-touch in, what we now call “the house from hell,” that it’s a joy to read God’s Word again! Yeah! I’m also finishing Cokie Roberts “Founding Mothers”–a nice light read.

Not a lot! I did to kill a mockingbird at school- have you seen the film of it?
I am reading Thomas the tank engine, Thomas the tank engine, Kipper, Owl babies and Thomas the tank engine……oh, what am I reading for me? I see! I go through phases when I read loads and then not much. Have started ‘the bible on the life hereafter’ but you need your bible in hand to read it so it requires peace and quiet to read….hmmm!
I love the Lord of the rings trilogy and reads it about once a year…infact, maybe it is time to read it again. I must get the first book back as I lent it out. Am doing a bible study on Proverbs 6 in 2 weeks so should be reading lots about that in the next week or so!

“To Kill a Mockingbird” is my favorite book ever. Growing up in the South, I understood all too well that race relations were important.
On a side note, if our Eliza had been a boy instead of a girl, we were going to name her Radley, after Boo himself.
