I looked back through the archives and it says I didn’t add to this series since August!? (Where have I been?)
Part 1 here
Part 2 here
11. Lie: Physical beauty matters more than inner beauty.
Isn’t this a big one in our culture? Everywhere we look we see that to be desirable or valuable we have to be beautiful.
What does chasing beauty get us? In the long run, nothing. There is nothing wrong with being fit or looking nice. The problem is our motivation.
If we want to look nice to get the praise of others, if we feel we are worth more if we look right, then we have a problem.
Truth:
1. At best physical beauty is temporal and fleeting.
2. The beauty that matters most to God is that of my inner spirit and character.
What value is a beautiful body if I have a decaying soul?
12. I should not have to live with unfulfilled longings.
OOO! Another one woven into our society. We are encouraged to identify our longings and do whatever it takes to meet them. The danger in believing this lie, is that we will do anything to fill the emptiness.
Truth:
1. This side of heaven, there will ALWAYS be unfulfilled longings.
It is not wrong to have inner longings. What is wrong is demanding they be met here and now. It is wrong if we fulfill them in illegitimate ways.
2.The deepest longings of our heart cannot be fulfilled by a person or thing.
3. I should allow these unfulfilled longings to increase me longing for God and heaven.
The next area of lies moves into sin, so I’m going to close this post and share the lies about sin in a future post.
