Listening to the Spirit

by adustyframe ~ October 18th, 2008

Today, Lee and I went out for lunch. He was telling me about a guy at work.

His wife wants to leave him and he’s understandably upset.

Lee said, “You know I am not always good about this, but as soon as he told me that, I knew I had to get the book from Fireproof for him. It was like the Lord just told me to get it for him.”

Wow!

I’ve share here how I’ve been trying to be better about obeying when the Spirit prompts so I encouraged him to do the same.

We stopped at a couple of stores and I suggested we head to the Christian book store. He said, “Oh nevermind.”

I reminded him that he knew the Lord prompted him to do that and reminded him that I’ve been trying to do the same.

So off to the bookstore we went. We looked all around the marriage section and didn’t see it. I went to ask where it was and another woman was at the desk asking for it too!

The clerk showed us where it was and there was only 1 copy. We offered it to the lady, but she told us to take it.

Lee and I would have liked to read this book, but it’s much more important to share it with someone who’s marriage is teetering at the brink of destruction!

I am so thankful that Lee listened to the promptings of the Spirit and I am so thankful that we were able to find a copy of the book. I’m thankful we went to see Fireproof too.

My sweet husband doesn’t like to admit emotions and it was interesting for me to realize that the movie touched him more than he let on.

Please pray for him as he shares the book with his co-worker. Pray too for this family who is hurting.

Wow! That’s awesome. I hope the other guy is blessed by it – and how great that Lee is learning to follow God’s inner promptings that way.

I definitely will have to check out Fireproof when it’s available on Netflix.

How awesome that Lee is listening to the Holy Spirit! And how equally awesome that this guy is going to recieve a gift (that will hopefully help his marriage)because Lee cares. God is so good. Thanks for sharing.

Also, thank you for sharing your life story with us readers. I really enjoy reading your blog and learning from you. You, because of your love for God, husband, and son, are a great encouragement to me. Keep up the good fight!

Thank you for your kind words.

WOW that is exciting!!! SO glad you shared that on your blog. I call that the little checks in my life. The pattern of listening to the Holy Spirit. If we take care to both listen to and obey the Holy Spirit in small matters it makes it easier to obey when He asks bigger things of us.

You’re right that obeying the small things really paves the way for obeying in the big stuff!

My husband and I are now doing that book. It is really good. I also teach 1st grade in a little school and it is amazing how many parents are splitting up this year. The kids come in and talk to me about it and are broken up about it. Then so many kids who have divorced parents and tell me horrible stories about what one parent says about the other. The kids are so hurt. If I didn’t have a resolve to work on my marriage then, I would have one now!

I’m glad you’re enjoying that book. Poor kids:(

That is awesome! It’s great to hear that Lee is following the prompting of the Spirit. I was able to go see Fireproof again on Saturday. I cought things in the humor that I hadn’t noticed before. It’s even better the 2nd time. This time the theater was packed and at the end everyone clapped! It was great! I keep praying that those who work in the theaters will be touched.

I know of a couple in my church who are now meeting with a pastor and his wife because of the movie. This husband also has the same addiction. I think Fireproof made him realize how his addiction is affecting his wife.

    I’ll keep praying!

I think that God has been able to use this movie quite a bit.

We haven’t seen this movie, but will probably rent it when it comes out on DVD!

We definitely want to buy it too!

I once heard – years and years ago – that if someone crossed your mind suddenly and without provocation, it meant that person needed prayer. And so whenever that happens to me, I try to go ahead right then and there and send up a request on their behalf. My little way of trying to follow the Spirit’s leading.
