Fireproof Strikes Again

by adustyframe ~ November 1st, 2008

I mentioned earlier that Lee and I went to see Fireproof.
I also shared that Lee purchased The Love Dare book to give to his co-worker.

Last night, he told me that he had arranged someone to watch James and that I should be ready to leave the house at 6 a.m.! (yikes! I’m seriously not a morning person!) He didn’t tell me what the plans were so it was my big surprise.

We drove through the country and I saw some beautiful foliage this morning. The morning sun was so beautiful and there was a hovering mist on many of the fields. I was too tired to ask Lee to stop for a photo, and I could sense that Lee was in a hurry to get somewhere.

I tried to wheedle the information out of him, but he kept it to himself.

We arrived at a church and I discovered that he had planned for us to spend the day at a simulcast of Fireproof your Marriage.

Apparently, this movie impacted him FAR more than I realized. The speakers were very good.

One of them was Gary Smalley. We were introduced to his teachings during our marriage seminars at the prison. We really enjoy his sense of humor and his easy to remember illustrations.

The speakers included the writers of Fireproof and the pastor of their church. I took quite a few notes which I will attempt to share with you soon.

They fed us a yummy lunch as well as snacks at break times.  The day was a wonderful surprise and I’m so thankful for Lee’s willingness to invest in our marriage.

He was very tired due to his shift work. Towards the end of the afternoon I asked if he’d like to go. He wanted to stay and we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon.

One fun bonus was one of “our songs” was played during an intermission.

The Kendrick brothers session was very good and funny. They shared a clip of jokes and pranks from the movie which had us all laughing out loud. Apparently scaring Kirk Cameron was one of their hobbies. They said that the DVD will be released in a couple of months as well as a small group Bible study based on The Love Dare.

They shared that The Love Dare (Movie is based on a book challenging spouses to dare to love one another) is on the New York Times bestseller list.

I love that a Baptist church made this movie and it’s making an impact all across this nation.

This was such a neat post. I haven’t seen the movie or read the book; I’ll have to see if our library has the book. I have a hard time sitting through movies, even really good ones. I’m happy for you and Lee that you seem to be on the same wavelength on this.

Maybe you can get it when it comes out on DVD?

  6. Overwhelmed With Joy!

That’s fantastic! How wonderful that you and your husband had such a wonderful experience together!

I’m so glad you got to do this together. Sounds like a great day. My hubby and I really enjoyed the movie too. We think that every married person in America should be required to see it!

I’m so happy for you! What a blessing! I’m so happy to hear that God is working in your marriage.

Question. You got me turned onto thepioneerwoman.com website and I can’t get onto it today. Did she shut it down? I’m hoping it’s just down for the day.

    What a wonderful birthday surprise!

  10. Revka

Alright, I vaguely remember seeing a FireProof trailer but didn’t pay it any attention. Because of everything you’ve written and how it has impacted Lee, I looked at the official site and watched the trailer there.

I want to see this! Can’t wait for it to come out on DVD.

What a wonderful surprise and how thoughtful of Lee. :) I’m glad you guys had a great time together.

You will enjoy it! I think it comes out in the next couple of months.
