Christmas Carols
by adustyframe ~ December 21st, 2008I found another CD to add to my Listmania on Amazon (haven’t added it yet…)
Casting Crowns Peace on Earth.
I especially enjoy their version of I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.
Let me know what you think.
Their old familiar carols play.
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of Peace on earth, good will to men.
I thought how as the day had come
The belfries of all Christendom
Had roll’d along th’ unbroken song
Of Peace on earth, good will to men.
And in despair, I bow’d my head:
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate is strong and mocks the song,
Of Peace on earth, good will to men.”
Then from each black, accursed mouth
The cannon thundered in the South,
And with the sound the carols drowned
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
It was as if an earthquake rent
The hearthstones of a continent,
And made forlorn, the households born
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep;
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With Peace on earth, good will to men.”

This is one of my favorite Christmas carols, especially the last stanza. I had not heard some of the stanzas you have here, though.
I love the version sung by Dean Wilder years ago (of Hale and Wilder.)

Merry Christmas! It’s on its way to you. Now I saved you the trouble of adding it to your wish list.
