My sister in law
by adustyframe ~ January 5th, 2009My nephew came over to play with James last week. When my sister in law (Lee’s sister) picked him up, she said she was so excited to see her boyfriend that night.
“I haven’t seen him for a whole week.” she said. Then in slow motion she turned and looked at me.
“I’m sorry that was thoughtless.”
I just smiled at her. I know it stinks for her that she didn’t see him for a week.
I told her not to worry about it. I know she wasn’t complaining but just stating a fact.
I appreciate that she realized that I haven’t seen my husband in longer than a week. I’m thankful for my friends who tell their children not to talk about or “play” jail around James.
I’m thankful for people who take time to genuinely care and realize that sometimes thoughtless words do hurt whether or not they were meant to.

What a sensitive young woman…how very sweet that she realized the power of her words.

This is a wonderful, heartwarming story of a small town welcoming a football team comprised of inmates.

It’s hard to watch what we say all the time. I’m just grateful for those moments when I realize I’ve made a bonehead comment & have time to apologize on the spot.

It is wonderful that your SIL was so self-aware. I have stuck my foot in my mouth many times and I always pray that people give me a little grace! It’s all in the intent–if the person is not normally malicious, give them the benefit of the doubt–you might find that you don’t feel so hurt, afterall!
