My trip to the hooskow last night

by adustyframe ~ January 29th, 2009

I went to visit Lee last night. I haven’t seen him for 3 week. Partly that is due to ice and snow and below zero temperatures and partly due to the flat tire I got last week.

As I drove on the highway, I decided to turn off the radio. I’m very rarely in the car alone. Usually there’s a chatty little boy in the back seat. I used the quiet car as an opportunity to pray.

I laid out some things before the Lord and asked for guidance. I prayed for some friends. I prayed for Lee and James and myself.

Then I decided to praise God for his attributes. I thanked him for his holiness, his omnipotence, his mercy, his provision.

Then I thanked him for being my El Roi, my Jehovah Jireh.

I was having a hallelujah service on the highway! I even sang some songs out loud.

It was truly a refreshing time and something I truly needed.

When I got there, I was told that the visiting hour was full and I’d have to wait for an hour. I didn’t really have anywhere to go, so I sat in the jail’s parking lot and read Kilmeny of the Orchard. I got rather chilly, but it was better than sitting in the jail lobby.

At first, I was a little bit annoyed, but then I said, “Ok God, I just spent all that time praising you and thanking you for your guidance, so I’m going to accept that you ordained this wait for me.”

When I went back in for the visit, I sat on the bench next to a lady that had a lot of questions about visiting. It was her first time at the jail. I answered some of them and we talked for a little while.

Then without me saying anything, she said, “I also homeschool my son.” Wow! That was interesting. She’s the 1st homeschool mom I’ve met at the jail.

We chatted about homeschooling quite a bit and then it was time to visit our inmates.

Lee was in a much better mood than I’ve seen him in lately. Which was a blessing and something I prayed about on the way up to see him!

Nothing was really exciting or earth shattering, but I must say the time I spent with God on the way us was totally worth it!

Wow. It sounds like that lady really needed you and God orchestrated the timing for that purpose. It’s neat to watch Him working through you. Hugs.

I totally understand about the time alone spent in the car. I have 4 kids, and am taking them places all the time. I love being by myself and just being able to speak out loud to God and sing to him. I’m so glad you had this time with Him =)

Thanks for the reminder….everything happens for a reason. God Bless, Pam

No wonder you had to wait — I’m glad you were able to be an encouragement to her.

That’s awesome, Lizzie. Sometimes spending time with God (even in the car) just really does that – changes your perspective and restores your joy. I’m glad last night went well for you. Praying for you guys.

That looks like a good book–LM Montgomery’s books are some of my favorites!
