Barnabas Award

by adustyframe ~ February 18th, 2009

I was praying about some things about this blog and I thought about an Award. I didn’t want it to be cheesy and I didn’t want to do it “just to do it”.

Then I thought about Barnabas and how he stood in the gap and encouraged Paul. Barnabas commended Paul to the believers when they were afraid to accept him and his conversion. Barnabas was also known for giving.

Acts 11:23 says about him,

“Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.”

I have a LOT of Barnabas type people in my life and so I decided to make it an award.

If you receive a Barnabas award it’s because you’re an encourager and I want you to share it with anyone who is your encourager.

I’m not going to put rules on it for how many you have to tag–just share it with whomever encourages you.

*Link back to the person who gave you the award.

*Use my graphic (leaving my blog address on it)

*Share it with anyone who encourages you whether or not their blog is “spiritual”.

“Barnabas worked with the Apostle Paul.

We remember him for his encouragement and generosity. In this spirit, I’d like to let you know that you are a Barnabas in my life. Thank you!”

I am going to pass mine out little by little because so many of you are blessings in my life. Here’s the 1st batch.

Chel at Chasing Contentment. Chel thank you for every email and note and thoughtful gesture you’ve sent our way. I appreciate your encouragement very much.

Transition Girl at In Transit Thank you seems so small, but I want you to know you’ve encouraged me so much!

Christy at The Abundant Life perhaps in this lifetime, God may be the only one who truly knows how much your encouragement means to me. Once again, “Thank you” seems so small!

Ashley at Twentysixcats Ashley always has a kind word and I appreciate her!

Marie at Musings from a Theo-Geek I “knew” Marie from a forum we participated in and have been thankful for her for a long time! Thank you, Marie!

Prairie Rose at The Fragrance of Sweetgrass she always has something encouraging to share and I appreciate her kind words and support.

Barbara at Stray Thoughts. I appreciate Barbara’s godly words. I appreciate how she speaks the truth in love all the time.

Patricia at Pollywog Creek. I found her blog awhile ago and the post was about a difficult marriage that God had healed. She’s been a prayer supporter and encourager of mine for quite awhile and I’m truly thankful.

Jenn at Good Job Mama! Jenn has been sending encouragement and thoughtfulness my way for quite some time too! Thank you, Jenn.

Susanna at A Basket of Berries Susanna has been a sweet friend for quite awhile too. Thank you, Susanna for your kindness!

Maggie Raye at Patchwork Cottage. Maggie works very hard to encourage single moms in their homeschooling efforts. She’s the blog I found when I was trying to decide if I could do this. Thank you, Maggie!

Revka at The Porch Light & Berries & Cream Blog Design Revka has encouraged me tons! She’s also been a wonderful help with my blog and the technical stuff. Thank you, Revka!

Lisa at Hopewell Takes on LIFE Thank you, Lisa for all the kind words and things you’ve encouraged me with!

Jacque Dixon at Walking Therein & Gleaning the Harvest I don’t think I can put into words how much encouragement it is to have someone who understands. Thank you.

I would also pass this on to some people if they had a blog!

Beth, Robin, Katherine, Pam, Katrina, Celina, Carol, Joy, Christina. Each of you leave comments and send emails and pray for us and I’m very thankful! Thank you for being a Barnabas in my life!

**Susanna talked me into making a button. Here’s the HTML for a button if you were awarded this award.

17 Thoughts Shared to Barnabas Award

  1. Chel

It means a lot to me that you feel that I’ve been an encouragement to you. That’s my goal … to be able to support when support is most needed.

You’re doing very well at your goal!

  2. celina

you just made me cry..thank you for “thanking” me…you know i wish i could do so much more….you are a barnabas to many others and hope you realize it…

Well, Celina, you’ve made me cry too;)! I’m glad we can encourage each other!

  3. Susanna

Aww shucks (embarrassed blush) – you are very kind. I just thank the Lord that He has given me the heart I have. Is there an html for the award as I would like to put it on my side bar 🙂

WELL! Susanna, I may have to take your Barnabas status back now–asking for html!!;0 (just kidding!) Ok I’ll see if I can figure it out;0!

  4. Lisa @ hopewell

Thank you Lizzie! That’s so sweet. I will definitely be awarding this one to some others.

  5. Pam

I was just thinking today how we all know someone with a “need’…especially with so very many people out of work. I won’t pat myself on the back by mentioning specifics (and taking away the blessings I receive) but I would encourage everyone to think about and “JUST DO IT”… be an encourager….send an email, send a hand written note, cook a meal, bake cookies, babysit, give an anonymous gift, give a compliment, if you have a skill (gift) use it to bless someone else….
Lizzie, You are a blessing with your honesty,
integrity….love of Christ and HIS word…
Thank you for being willing to be “YOU”

  6. Stephanie

Wow what wonderful blogs you have listed that I havent read before. I will have to go check them out! One of the greatest blessings I get from reading blogs is the encouragement and community of it. It is awesome!

If I had to give your award out, I would give it to you. You bless me so very very much 🙂

  7. Christy

Dear Lizzie … isn’t it wonderful how God brings people together and uses us for His grand purpose? Not of our own strength but by His grace. I am encouraged and blessed by you. Thank you for the “award.” I immediately went and read the references in the Bible to Barnabas. What a treat … a little afternoon Bible study. I loved it and hope to live as Barnabas is described in Acts 11:24. Love you!

  8. Robin in New Jersey

I have not read any of those blogs you gave an award to, so I look forward to checking each one out.

I did go to one last night and was immediately blessed(Christ@abundantlife)

Have a wonderful day today, Lizzie.

  9. Revka

Oh, Lizzie, thank you so much! It means a lot to have you say that I have encouraged you. I pray for you and your family often and try to be an encouragement to you. But you know something? You encourage me – lots.

Thanks again. Will definitely be passing this one. 🙂

  10. Barbara H.

What a sweet idea, Lizzie. I commend you for putting your thoughts into action — I don’t always think about letting people know they’ve encouraged me.

Thanks so much for sending one my way. I am honored and humbled. I wish I could say I did speak the truth in love at all times. 🙂 That’s the nice thing about a blog — it gives one time to pray and think of the best way to word things.

You are welcome:)! Well, if your blog is speaking the truth that’s good! Many blogs don’t.

  11. Patricia (Pollywog Creek)

Aren’t you just the sweetest! This means a lot coming from you, dear Lizzie. YOU are an encouragement to me, so consider yourself to be MY first “Barnabas” recipient.

🙂 I guess I’m going to have to add to the list of rules–no giving it to me!

  12. Jacque

Thanks very much Lizzie! How sweet of you to think of me! May the LORD bless you and fulfill all your needs!
    blessings and peace~

I hope the stalker is gone too!
