Homemade Hamburger Buns
by adustyframe ~ March 17th, 20091 cup water
2 eggs
1/3 cup PLUS 2 tablespoons oil
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
For the wash before baking:
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
sesame seeds (optional)
1. Add ingredients to your bread machine in order listed.
2. Select dough setting. When cycle is complete, remove dough from machine to a lightly floured surface.
3. Divide dough into 3 equal portions, divide each portion into 6 balls. (or 2 balls so you get 12 bigger buns, the bake time is a little longer)
4. Turn balls in hands folding edge under to make a circle.
5. Press ball flat between hands.
6. Place on greased cookie sheet pressing to a 3 1/2 inch circle. Cover. ( I use a slightly damp clean woven cotton dishtowel)
7. Let rise 30 minutes or until double in volume.
8. Combine 1 slightly beaten egg w/ 1 Tbs water and brush on the tops of the buns.
9. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. (optional)
10. Bake at 350 for about 10 minutes or until lightly brown.
Mine never last that long, but they should freeze well baked or the dough alone after shaping the rolls.
**This is from my friend. I haven’t made them yet but her family raves about them.

When we lived in Japan, I would make homemade hamburger buns. We couldn’t get any decent ones at the time. The recipe is similar. They were delicious! You will have to try them.

These sound yummy. I made homemade hamburger buns last November, after Thanksgiving left me with so many mashed potatoes that I pulled out every mashed potato recipe I could find. Thanks for providing another option, one that doesn’t require potatoes.

Sounds great. It makes me wish I had a bread machine.
