Thank you so much for your answer. You probably know how nerve-wracking this is. Yes, I have 5 children. Would you say that even I could get in trouble if I mess this up? Like if he called, if I didn’t report it would that get me into trouble? Did your husband’s PO give you any instructions that YOU had to follow? I feel like I’m totally in the dark about all of this!!!!

I honestly can’t really tell you what to do. You’re going to have to talk with his parole officer. Each one of them is very different.

Yes, they offer it here, and supposedly, men who complete the program have a really low recidivism rate, but the percentage of guys who actually do complete it is really low… He is getting out probably on Monday, and as far as I know he will not be allowed any contact with us. If he breaks any of his rules he’ll be back in jail for a year and 90 days. I am soooo nervous because I don’t think he’ll be able to resist calling or coming around, and I’m thinking I’ll be required to tell his PO if he does something wrong?? What is the wife’s role when a husband is out on probation?

Honestly, your role is helping him obey his rules whether or not either of you like them. You have to support his probation and not hinder it or get in the way of anything. It’s not fun, but you don’t want to have any part of him messing up–especially when you have children. You need to be very careful.

That was really cute. I found out last week I will most likely work in the county jail before I can become a patrol officer. I look forward to understanding better the situation Lee is in. I’m still praying for you my friend.

I also wanted to ask you, since you have spent time with other wives of prisoners, have you heard much about Domestic Violence Repeat Offender Programs where they get out on probation and go to counseling 3x week and see their probation officers 2x week? I know that wasn’t your husband’s crime but I knew you had befriended some other wives (which I haven’t had the chance to do) Soooo…. just thought I’d ask you if you’d heard anything. Thanks!!

No, I haven’t heard of this. Is it something they offer in your area?

I have lived with my husband when he was a US Marine, and also when he was a Corrections Officer. I haven’t lived with him since he was incarcerated himself, but it will be interesting (scary?) to see if he has changed whenever he gets out…
