Encouragement from Prison

by adustyframe ~ March 25th, 2009

When we went to the marriage seminars last year, we made some good friends–even Christian friends. One of the ladies encourages me all the time and I’ve been thankful to get to know her.

Our group of girls gets together at Gigi’s once a month on the night after the marriage seminar and we let our hair down. We talk about what’s frustrating us, the things we’re wondering about, the good news, the bad news, the prison junk!

It’s been so good having a group of people who know exactly what I’m dealing with. Since Gigi moved away, we’ll be meeting at my house in the future.

One of the husbands offered to write to Lee and encourage him to hang in there and do what’s right. Lee sent me his letter and I’d like to share it with you.

It’s interesting to me that God can use prisoners to encourage and teach. Yes, the royally messed up, but even they can be used by God if they’re willing.

Here’s what he wrote to Lee:

Hi Lee,

Man, I am sorry to hear you are back in. That has to hurt, big time. Lizzie emails my wife and she thought you may be open to a letter.

I can’t begin to imagine how you feel, being back in, but maybe like I felt coming here to begin with? Hope you dont’ think I am being judgemental, as I am no one to throw stones.

Do you think this may be a “slow learners” class for you? A time to reevaulate your relationship wth the Lord? Just an observation. I hope you don’t take great offense at.

If you care to,  I am willing to enter into a pen-pal relationship with you. You know me well enough to see that I am no interested in a “jail house talk”, or feel sorry for one another. I am a born again believer, and take it seriously, and approach most everything from that perspective.

If you care to write, I will tell you how I came to walk with God. Hint: God made me, He can fix me. And you!

Up to you, Lee. I pray for you, and hope that you will “get it right” this time, and for Lizzie, your marriage. Don’t lose heart, God has a plan and He will not lose hope in you. His love never fails, not ever. Never even weakens, even when we don’t deserve it.

“Do the time” Lee, don’t let it do you. May he lead and bless you.

We should never doubt that the Lord can reach us-wherever we are, although we are often tempted to. What an encouraging affirmation of that fact

  2. Beth

Wow, that is great! I hope Lee takes him up on it. Hugs and prayers for you all.

  3. Pam

    What a sweet….kind….gesture….how very
Christlike to reach out to someone else.
May God Bless him and his family.

That is wonderful, and so great that Lee shared it with you too. Thank you Lord! I am so glad you have a support system to help you through this time also. It is true, if God leads you to it, He will lead you through it!

That letter brought tears to my eyes. How awesome that he’s reaching out to Lee like that. And I think your ladies’ group is equally wonderful!

What a sweet post. This guy sounds like a perfect person for your husband to have as a friend. It’s great when folks act normal and don’t make issues of what others are going through. We’re all dealing with some sort of ‘stuff’.

Wanted to say that I got some great little vintage clothespins in the mail today. Love them…thank you so much. 🙂 Enjoyed doing business with you.

Cool;) I didn’t realize that was you!

    I’m tearing up.

And I’m beginning to believe more and more that God can use the “royally messed up” people more than the “everything is peachy” people.

Look at us Christians. We’re all royally messed up, in one way or another. That’s why we know we need the Lord and are finally willing to follow Him.

For the people who everything is swell in life, it’s harder to use them because, well, why would they need the Lord? Everything is great without Him. (that’s what I hear sometimes from pple who’s life seem charmed)

Look at the Bible. Most of the greatest biblical people have made stupid, grave mistakes. David committed adultery, Paul killed Jews… the list goes on. These horrific acts weren’t out of place with our sinful nature. What was amazing is that the Lord still used them for His glory, DESPITE their sins and weaknesses.

We got a truly amazing God. 😀

Man. Now I’m crying (in a good way). God is awesome. I’m so glad you have people to talk to who understand in this way.

  9. Jacque

Praise the LORD for Brother and Sisters in Christ!
May God give him favor with Lee, and may he continue to be an encouragement to him!

May the LORD continue to encourage your heart as well!
