Lies Women Believe~ part 4
by adustyframe ~ April 9th, 2009Parts 1-3 here.
Lee sent me a paper with a study he’s been doing. He asked me if I could figure out what book it was from. I said, “It looks very much like Lies Women Believe.” He said that’s what he’s doing.
That sort of cracks me up. The county jail houses men and women so I guess it’ s not odd that this book would be on the book cart. It just makes me giggle that my husband is doing the study.
However, this is a very Biblical study and most of it applies to men and women. I am finding it interesting the lies he’s admitting he has believed. Some of them are obvious, like “I can get away with my sin.” It’s good for him to be open with me and it’s good for me to see him admitting things he’s been believing that are not true.
If you have not done this study yet, I challenge you to consider doing it. It’s very convicting.
13. I can sin and get away with it. Adam and Eve got stuck on this one didn’t they? We do too. For some reason, even though the Bible says, “Be sure your sin will find you out.” we still think we can hide it.
We may not EVER admit this out loud or even to ourselves, but when we sin, we believe the lie from Satan that we can get away with it.
Sometimes there IS fun or pleasure in sin. Of course there is or we wouldn’t do it right? But even if we think for a time we’re getting away with it, sin always “exacts a devastating toll. There are no exceptions.”
Lee wrote these out and sent them to me–they’re in the book in this lie’s section.
The Consequences of Sin:
*Sin steals joy Ps. 51:12
*Sin removes confidence 1 John 3:19-21
*Sin brings guilt Ps 51:3
*Sin gives Satan the upper hand 2 Corinthians 2:9-11
*Sin quenches God’s Spirit 1 Thess. 5:19
*Sin brings physical damage Ps 38:1-11, 31:10
*Sin causes an ache in the soul Ps 32:3-4
*Sin breaks God’s heart Eph 4:30
*Sin opens the door to other sins Isaiah 30:1
*Sin breaks fellowship with God Isaiah 59:1-2
*Sin produces fear Proverbs 28:1
*Sin makes me it’s slave John 8:34, Romans 6:16
14. My sin really isn’t that bad.
Compare to someone who’s in prison, or on their way there, or someone who does drugs or drinks too much, well I look “purdy good” right?
We like to think we’re not so bad. If I waste time, talk too much, eat too much, have a sharp tongue or critical spirit, it’s just a “weakness” or “struggle”. Or maybe it’s “just the way I am.”
Eve didn’t leave her husband. She didn’t deny God. She didn’t curse God. So what was the big deal? The big deal is God said “don’t” and Eve said, “I will.”
I’ve quoted this before but I like it. Nancie Leigh DeMoss says,
“If only we could see that every single sin is a big deal, that every sin is an act of rebellion and cosmic treason, that every time we choose our way instead of God’s way, we are revolting against God and the King of the Universe. ”

I am doing that study too! I started it in November. It is s.l.o.w. going. There is so much meat in it.
It’s so good isn’t it? I think it’s one of those “do more than once” studies.
