You’re Lucky~repost

So said the attorney a couple of years ago.

He and I were sitting in the entry way of our county jail. This entry way is actually quite fancy. I always wondered how many tax dollars that cost.

I was on my way in to visit my husband and our attorney was leaving. He asked me to sit down so he could go over some things with me.

It’s truly a strange experience to sit in a jail with your husband’s attorney discussing life altering information.

Footsteps echo across the floor. All voices are easily heard. Doors opening and closing. Officers coming and going. Heavy doors and buzzers sounding.

On this day we were discussing a ruling that was being decided. The attorney had worked out a “deal”. One that was favorable to all of us. (Favorable being a relative term mind you.)

I thanked him for his time and work.

He said, “Well you’re lucky you know.”

I almost let his comment go, but the Lord nudged me. I had already committed to giving him glory for these circumstances.

I said, “No, it’s not luck. We have a lot of people praying for us.”

He shifted uncomfortably in his chair. His eyes darted around to the people coming and going.

He said, “Yeah. Ok. Well he must be listening to someone.”

Another day, I was in this attorney’s office to discuss another matter.

He snapped closed my husband’s file and said, “You are such a good wife to him.”

Once again, I had to give credit where it was due. In myself, I am not a good wife by any stretch of the imagination.

I said, “Well, it’s only God that helps me. He has truly done a miracle in our marriage.”

He quickly changed the subject.

We are not retaining this particular attorney anymore. Some funny business he was involved in came to our attention and we found a different attorney.

Some of his “funny business” very well could have affected my husband’s case. That was a hard pill to swallow, but there is no real evidence. We had to accept it as something that God allowed.

I still see his silver Volkswagen on the street outside of his office. I try to remember to pray for him.

His name is Matt. You can pray for him too. I’m  sure he doesn’t know the Lord. He needs to.

I pray that God will bring others into his life that will also give him the glory. Maybe someday he will be willing to acknowledge God’s working in the affairs of men.
