Do you?

Romans 12:15a Rejoice with them that do rejoice,

A couple weeks ago at church, pastor taught on this.

He asked a question that has stuck with me and so I’m going to ask you.

“Do I rejoice when someone gets what I wanted?”

A baby, a husband, a marriage restored, financial provision–the list goes on.

If it’s something I desperately want and something that I’m praying for am I able to rejoice when someone else gets it?

What are your thoughts on this question?

It can be a hard thing to do, for sure. Only by God’s grace! I think it’s easier when it’s not something you want desperately – but then again, I probably learn more about myself (yuck) and more about God’s love and blessings when it IS something that is a strong desire.

Lots of thoughts on this one….am I willing to do what they did to get what they got?
Would that “thing” be good for me? Would I be willing to give God the glory if I “got” it?

Great question! I’ve been mulling this idea over for about 3 years. I’ve had a hard time truly rejoicing in a few situations because my heart hurt knowing I was not going to get something that a friend was getting. But recently I had a revelation…God had answered a longtime prayer 3 years ago and I hadn’t been thankful lately. It has inspired thankfulness and contentment in me just to acknowledge God’s past goodness and given me confidence that He has it all under control, knowing what’s best for me and my family.

Isn’t that such a hard, horrible feeling? To want something and not get it and to be unsure about how to respond when someone else gets what we wanted.
