Fall Squash~Cheat
by adustyframe ~ October 21st, 2009
Here’s my works for me today!
I enjoy fall squash, but they are a pain to cut in 1/2 and bake. So, I just cheat.
Here’s what I do.
1. Wash the outside of the squash with a tiny drop of dish soap. I just put it on my hand and run my hands over the outside and rinse.
2. Poke holes in the squash with a fork.
3. Place in a baking dish with a couple inches of water.
4. Put in oven at 350 or whatever you think is best.
5. Bake.
6. When squash is soft, remove from oven. Let cool slightly.
7. Cut in 1/2 very easily now and scoop out strings and seeds.
8. Scoop out flesh and serve.
MMMM!

Or….cut in half….take out seeds….fill hole with sausage, onions, finely chopped carrots. In the last 5 minutes of the baking process sprinkle with a little cinnamon and brown sugar.

About how long does it take for a whole squash to cook that way? I have TWO sitting on my counter waiting for me to bake!

can’t wait to try this, since even with my best kitchen knife it’s a struggle to cut one in half! i saw a chef in a kitchen peeling one with a really good vegetable peeler, and so i tried that- it worked ok, but was still quite a task.

I don’t know if you saw, but I tweeted this link today. I’ve never had this kind of squash but it sounds good.
