Socialization
by adustyframe ~ October 28th, 2009Last week, James and I were at the thrift store. While I was checking out, James ran to the bathroom.
I heard “Lizzie! Hi”. It was Lucille my elderly friend who taught me to knit. We chatted for a few minutes and she said, “Where’s James?”
Lucille used to call me when I had my shop and ask if James was there. If he wasn’t she wouldn’t come in! She’d say, “Ok well I’ll stop in another day.”
She and James have a sweet special friendship. So when James found me in the checkout line again, I said, “Lucille is here she’s looking for you.”
We walked down the front of the store looking down the aisles until we found her. James trotted down the aisle and talked with her for several minutes.
I stood watching with a big smile in my heart.
I don’t know about you but I’d say that an almost 9 year old boy carrying on a conversation with an 84 year old woman is socialized pretty well!

This made me smile
Not only is he socialized, he’s learned that friendships can transcend generations. That is pretty special.

I read the other day one of the signs you “might want to consider homeschooling” is that your children are ackward around elderly people. This made me smile too, at the sweetness of your son!
