I can't say AMEN loudly enough to this post...and I'm going to link to it on my blog because this is a ministry that has been heavy on my heart this year. With the state the economy is in, you just know that the number of kids on "Angel Tree" lists (not just the one connected to Prison Fellowship - that Salvation Army and others have programs too) is growing. It stands to reason that donors are going to be down, because money is just tighter for everyone.

The thought of children without a parent or anything on Christmas drives me to distraction. I mean, it depresses me. I checked this Angel Tree program, and you can send in a donation by check but apparently to go and get wish lists/gifts your church has to have a program. I wanted to "sponsor" four children - one for each of my own kids; same age and sex - and take them shopping so they could pick out the gifts for their "Angel". Unfortunately, with the Prison Fellowship Angel Tree program it was impossible, BUT the Salvation Army has an Angel Tree program that lets you register online (JC Penney sponsors the site); pick your kid and print out his/her wish list, go shopping, and deliver the gifts yourself straight to the local Salvation Army center. If you don't want to bother, you can even buy your gifts online and JC Penney PAYS FOR THE SHIPPING to the Salvation Army center.

And that's just what we did. My kids were excited - and they made their Angels personal cards, as well. It not only helps the recipient children; it helps us teach OUR kids about the joy of giving and meaning of Christmas. You can run my blog post on the Angel Tree program if you want to: http://theo-geek.blogspot.com/2009/12/birthday-presents-for-jesus.html

IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO MAKE A DONATION. PLEASE EVERYONE READING LIZZIE'S POST, CONSIDER SENDING SOMETHING TO ANGEL TREE - IT REALLY DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!

<strong>
I agree. I think the others are important of course! I just hold Angel Tree dear to my heart. It is so good for these hurting little ones to know their parent remembers them.
There is a little confusion though. Angel Tree at Penny's isn't the same program as Angel Tree with Prison Fellowship. But any program to help a needy child is wonderful.</strong>
