Happy New Year Survey

by adustyframe ~ December 29th, 2009

I saw this on The Common Room’s blog and thought I’d give it a try.

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
I learned to make soap. I enjoy it and I love the homemade soap. I don’t think it’s going to be the craft that takes over my life. It’s nice to be confident about it and  I’m glad I can make it for gifts or myself.

I learned to knit socks and also 2 color knitting.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No.
I’m not sure at this point.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth or get pregnant?
My sister in law and the baby is due next week! We’re so excited. The other day, James said to me, “Mom! I just can’t WAIT to meet the baby.”

Thankfully my brother lives within driving distance. I hope my sister in law doesn’t mind that we’re moving in til the baby is 18!

4. Did anyone close to you get married?

One of Lee’s nephews

5. Did anyone close to you die?

My Grandma. It was more difficult than I realized it would be. I’ve felt “behind” since September.

6. Travel?

We flew across country for Grandma’s funeral. My siblings were so sweet and paid for James and I.

7. Did you move anywhere?

No, thank God!

8. What was the best month?

July when Lee was released and June when my siblings were all here. James got baptized in June too.

9. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?

My husband home!
10. What date(s) from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

July 6 when James went to camp for a whole week for the 1st time.

11. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Does holding it all together count?

12. What was your biggest failure?
Impatience and not losing weight!

13. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I lost 2 weeks to the horrible flu in December.
14. What was the best thing you bought?

Street clothes for Lee! Although the Shark steam mop I got with a gift certificate certainly makes me happy!

15. Whose behavior merited celebration?

James–I always make a big deal when he’s honest with me or when he obeys Mom’s rules even when he’s at another home.

16. Whose behavior made you appalled and/or depressed?

Congress and the media

17. Where did most of your money go?
Bills

18. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Lee’s release & time spent with my siblings.

19. What song will always remind you of 2009?
?

20. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
ii. richer or poorer?

i. happier. I notice that I’m coping with things better and I’m able to be a little more of myself.

ii. slightly richer but certainly not much! Lee’s job is helping us totter back the direction we should be going but it’s a long way off. I’d say slightly because Lee was incarcerated this time last year and we had no income.

21. What do you wish you’d done more of?

creating memories, eating at the table with nice dishes and the table cloth

22. What do you wish you’d done less of?

worrying, being impatient with James,

23. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve/Day?
We stay home and relax. We’ll probably manage to eat a few snacks and watch a movie.

24. What was an unexpected surprise?
My brother and sister in law’s baby.

Visiting with my siblings so many times this year. (Although that makes me MISS them a lot more.) Technically it was 2008, but my sister and her husband came for Christmas last year. Then both of my sisters along with spouses/children came in June and my brother and sister in law came up. We spent a couple weeks loving on each other and it was fabulous. Then we were all together–including my parents–for Grandma’s funeral.

We’ve not seen each other that much in years. We enjoyed every  minute.

25. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Fell in love all over again with my husband and son!

26. What was the best concert you’ve been to this year?
Well, I guess since I didn’t go to any, I have to say the concerts I played for for the youth choir.

27. What was your favorite TV program?
I like Monk. I don’t watch much TV though. We watch Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader and Jeopardy together sometimes.

28. Do you dislike anyone now that you didn’t dislike this time last year?

hmmm…I can’t think of any new dislikes this year. I probably wouldn’t blog about it if so–nothing to be proud of in my opinion.

29. What was the best book you read?
Cowboy and Wills, Miss Read series, The Bible (of course!)

30. What was your greatest musical discovery?

That I stink quite badly at playing for a choir–which was embarrassing and humbling. I’m a solo pianist apparently, but I’ve obligated myself for the rest of the school year, so…
31. What did you want and get?

my bathroom fixed up (yes, I know…pictures..)

32. What did you want and not get?

I imagine every one of you can guess that one (see #9)
33. What was your favorite film of this year?

I really don’t watch movies. My friend took me to see Julie and Julia and I really liked it but we were a little surprised about the language.

34. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I was 38 (;0 ) James and I went out to eat and he did tons of little things to make it special for me.

35. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Losing weight and #9 & #32

36. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Anything that doesn’t have coffee spilled on it–I did discover square necklines and I really like them.

37. What kept you sane?
Friends who pray for me. Trying to just do normal family things. Prayer. Admitting I need help even though  my pride STILL fights me on that one. Seeing my family so much.

38. What political issue stirred you the most?

Congress stuff

39. Who did you miss?
my husband, my siblings

40. Random Memories from 2009?

Playing Bohnanza, laughing with my son, knitting, sitting outside in the backyard listening to my son play,  yummy photo shoots,

What about you? Want to play along? Let me know if you do.

Lizzie

This looks like fun — I might do it tomorrow, but I think I’d take out some of the questions just to make it shorter.

    I think #11 counts immensely!
