Last of the vacation projects
by adustyframe ~ January 5th, 2010Here are the last few projects I worked on over our vacation.
Socks for James–he wears them like slippers. The pattern I found for his pair uses thicker yarn and bigger needles. They knit up quite fast.

Then I just HAD to knit socks for my “due any day now” nephew. We’re so excited but I suppose his Mama wants him to arrive more than we do.
Aren’t these cute? (Hard to take a photo of without little feet in them but you get the idea.)

I wanted to try knitting with two colors, so I made this little ornament. It was very fast and I think I’ll make a few for gifts for next year. I have to tweak the pattern a little though.

I’m very excited about this one!
When I closed the store, I brought this antique counter home to use as an island. It stores my cookbooks, misc junk, fruit bowl, etc. I need to clean it all out too!
The front has nice board like this–

One end also has nice board. At the store that was the end that pointed out and the ugly end was against the wall. When I brought it home, the only place it worked in my kitchen meant I had to have the ugly end out.
Like I said about my bathroom, sometimes I just didn’t look at the ugly and sometimes I had a chair in front of it so I couldn’t see it.
Recently, I was looking at a magazine and saw this idea and Lee said we should do it. He used the pieces of trim left over from the bathroom so all we had to buy was the paint.

I saw the idea to hold the chalk in an old handle on Etsy. So, we took the handle off the drawer on the counter! I tried to find a new one but they didn’t look right and cost too much anyway. I just have to remember not to shut the drawer all the way or it’s hard to open!

I will probably repaint the rest of the counter in the spring, but for now I’m very pleased.
I told Lee that I smile when I walk into the bathroom I smile and I smile when I walk out because I see the end of the counter.
It is fun to fix things up and it’s fun to do it as cheaply as possible. I’m so thankful that he knows how to do these things and that he’s willing to indulge my ideas.
I have a lot of chalkboard paint left over. I teased Lee that I was going to find all kinds of things to use it on. He told me to step away from the chalkboard paint!
Now that we’re back to our normal schedule, I won’t have time for all these projects. I’m sure I can dream up a list for spring break.
Have you been working on anything lately? (Books, writing, crafts, etc)

I’m glad you’ve been able to find the time to work on your projects! You and my friend, Kelly, have inspired me to knit socks. I have nice, thick yarn for a pair for myself. I think I’ll try and find a pattern to start them. I’ve seen the chalkboard paint around and have wanted to try it, but don’t have anyplace to paint with it. Glad to see it’s so easy to use. Have a great week!
Do you have a yarn store near you? I asked them for a simple beginner’s pattern and they matched me up with a pattern and yarn.

Knitting is so fun, Jenny:)! The little socks are really so sweet! I can’t wait to see them on his feet!

BTW, if you have a Habitat for Humanity ReStore near you, they often have odds and ends handles and knobs for sale for under $1 easily. Might be a place to check for a replacement handle!
